+ Cam Awesome deciding to not turn pro and instead become a motivational speaker; Trevor Bryan only having fought once annually without ever stepping up in class; Arias sputtering along in 6-rounders three years after debuting; Teslenko languishing in Canada for some reason; Modugno scared to leave Italy or invite anybody with a pulse into his parlor; Ehwarieme (Nigerian Olympian with dynamite in his fists) camping out in Argentina beating up cab drivers; Glazkov disappearing since the Martin debacle; Alfonso (Cuban Olympian from 2008) fighting bum after bum nonstop for almost 5 years; Kuzmin following a parabolic career development path so far; Myrsatayev going nearly a year without a fight; et cetera, et cetera.

So much fruit rotted on the vine. :ohno

There are some big guys from around the globe with promising talent and/or solid amateur pedigrees in their early thirties or even twenties for whom their handlers seem to have a plan to bring them along rapidly (but not recklessly), namely:

Yoka (France), Dubois (UK), Kabayel (Germany), Franklin (USA), and Fa (New Zealand)

but, largely, the pattern is out-with-a-whimper disappointment.

This is so true. He has to be one of the most frustrating fighters i seen. A good bit of talent, and yes I'm giving him credit even though he's a laughing stock of anything of importance. The dude has a superior jab. His defense is on point as well just has no power. But, he could of been a lot better and done a lot more than he has done. Waste of talent. He seems to come to lose. But yet, compete just a bit to make u think he's really in it.

Perfect example against Kubrat Pulev. He proved to be a real live dog in the first couple rounds, only to just stand and not doing ANYthing after a few 2 or 3 rounds. Idiot i swear.

Pianeta close decision, KJ doesn't even try to win anymore.

Wow. I guess I know (and care about) the stupid heavyweight division more than I like to let on.

This brings me to the point I've argued pretty much ever since joining these boards. Is it the lack of talent as much as it's the lack of decent fights? Sure it's a bit of both... The latter is a far bigger issue, that and good talent rotting in general. In the 90s-early 2000s the solid B and C level HW talent would all fight one another -resulting in a lot of timeless brawls - thus resulting in an entertaining division(even if it's an illusion, that's better than an outright boring and stagnant division that can't even pretend to be good) . (Izon/D. Wilson being a particularly underrated one) Today... Fights like Miller/Washington and Breazeale/Ugonoh are rare treats. Those kind of brawls were pretty damn common in the 90s-early 00s.

Obsessing with the fringes and obscure corners of the division... a pathological condition that has stricken many poor souls on many boxing boards.

Terrible fight you wouldn't think Kevin Johnson was a hyped up prospect I really thought he could have had a decent career Maby even pick up a title he was a talented fighter

Pianeta wins on points in a fight that Johnson could win but he just throws it away

Johnson is the heavyweight Hank Lundy, if you took all the hot and cold tendencies and just left the faucet constantly running on cold (occasionally dribbling out room temp for a moment, but no warmer).

I feel like this would be no less interesting were it either Johnson or Pianeta versus the event promoter.

In fact, Petkovic vs. either would be more entertaining, I'm sure of it.

Call me crazy, but wasn't Joshua the IBO champ? When did they decide to strip him, and for what?
