McCall had a chin of iron. But could his chin withstand the fearsome combinations delivered with the speed and power that Louis would hit him with? Or would he become another in a long line if fighters who never thought they'd go down?

    Hard to say.

I could see McCall lasting the distance, and I could see some sort of mercy stoppage, or I could even see Louis being the man to break the unbreakable object.

Mccall would be able to soak up the punches thrown by Louis. He wouldn't go down, but his face may be battered at the end. He'd lose a wide points verdict,, it would be a repeat of the Klitschko /Brigg s fight imo.

I think he'd finish on his feet with his face looking like that of an emergency room patient with a peanut allergy, but that' just a hunch.

If he did ,I think it would be a ref's mercy intervention with Oliver on his feet but not firing back.

Louis did not stop some folks in his prime, including from the "bum of the month club".
Check how many of them never went down before or after fighting Louis, see if you can find some.
McCall went 73 fights, 428 rounds, & over 300 rounds with Tyson without going down.
Why is there any significant chance he would be floored?

Unless he had that one time mental breakdown as against Lewis, what other fight that he had even says it would likely be stopped on cuts-or for any reason?

He would soak up a lot of punishment & lose aq wide decision.
There is more of a chance it would be a close fight-though unlikely-than any knockdown or stoppage, given folks like Conn (for a qhile) , Farr & Godoy gave him close fights.

Godoy gave him a close fight the first time, but he got busted up pretty bad the second, because by then Louis had figured out his unorthodox crouching style, like the master lockpick he was.

Anyone have any thoughts on how McCall matches up stylistically? Can he pose any puzzles for Joe?

On paper McCall would be tailor made for Louis.

Louis did very well against anybody who gave him room to work, and McCall's defensive approach would play into his hands.

The reason that McCall might give Louis an unexpectedly tough fight, is that Louis would not be able to put him away like he did almost everybody else.

This means that Louis would have to keep pressing the fight, and take some of those big shots in order to do so.

It would look one sided, but Louis would have to dig deep for it.

Yes. Louis was 200 lbs. He had very good power, but nothing to indicate he could ko the iron chinned McCall.
