What do you mean by " Sonny usually beat Marty apart from that one time " ?
'Usually' ?....i think 'Definately' would be a far greater choice of wording.

I'm not confused at all I have your number and have done since the Carnera thread. You blatantly skew things, all the while innocently protesting you aren't trying to denigrate a fighter.I don't like you, and I don't like how you operate, does that sound clear -headed and definite enough to you?

The guy's a sly agenda driven piece of work ,Liston beat the sh*t out of Marshall in their second fight and Marshall , by his own admission ran like a thief in their third.
Bottom line Liston in his 8th fight, lost a split decision in an 8 rounder to a guy having his 26th fight , and he battled on with a broken jaw for 4 rounds.

I've never seen anyone produce proof that Marshall knocked Liston down either!

The common denominator with both Liston & Foreman is that they are the 2 opponents most likely deemed to be Marciano's biggest nightmare.

When you look at it like that, then it begins to make sense.

I helpfully introduced that link because it is the only place anyone can find the report of the fight that Liston lost. There is literally nowhere else to find it. What’s wrong with that?

It’s not my fault that in 1964, before Sonny lost the title, sports illustrated interviewd a bunch of guys who lasted longer or did better against Sonny than Patterson did -and within it they reproduced the original fight report of the fight Sonny lost.

It’s not my fault you don’t agree with the opinions going around at that time of people who knew Sonny better than you did.

And I am sorry it is offensive to you to have to read stuff you don’t like in order to reach the part about the report where Sonny lost to Marshal that one time. The report that makes no mention of Sonny laughing in order to receive a broken jaw from the 24lb lighter Marshal. It was just one of those things that happens to unknown fighters before they were great. No shame in it at all.

Sonny beat Marshal every other time they met. This is as well documented as the points made by the guys here in 1964.

When did I ever dispute any of this? I never said Marshal did not lose all his other fights with Sonny.

Thanks for these great articles. It seems there was no knockdowns scored by Marshall but in losing every round of a "dreary ten rounder" Marty still cut Sonnys lip and gave him a nose bleed in the last fight.

Interesting that within the later reports there is Still no mention of the howling/ hollering causing a laughter incident from stone faced Sonny in the first fight is there?

So it seems although Sonny won the three fight series, with one win being completely dominant, Marshall was a somewhat difficult, nuisance opponent at that stage of Listons development.

And at twenty odd pounds lighter Marty did very well to last longer than Floyd Patterson did against Sonny Liston and in losing their series make Sonny look bad.

But you are always confused. It is a Marty Marshall thread. Not a mcvey thread.

I'm new to this forum it does seem this chocklab character has a problem with sonny liston who as a novice beat a seasoned pro 2 out of 3 times the time he lost he had to fight with a broken jaw! I can't see how this can be seen as anything other than positive towards Sonny!
