Funny how the judges are spot on with scoring in these types of fights.

Erislandy Lara didn't help sell himself by going 12 rnds with a relatively week opponent , Gausha.

Honestly this is the kind of event where you could justify any two matches in your title. Anytime you have a championship triple-header, really..

Hey, uh, Erickson? The phone is for you. It's this guy Ricky Hatton, calling long distance collect from just seven weeks shy of a decade ago...he says "lol btw don't make rookie mistakes against highly skilled boxers"...

Lara vs hurd would be a lop sided beating. Boy gets hit way to much.

Not to once again be "that guy" or anything but some of us did caution against overhyping Lubin quite some time ago (reaching back in time halfway across his pro career)...

...and, while the no doubt tragic situation that would unfold later in 2015 (ending the boxing careers, effectively, of both victim Prichard Colón and his more promising conqueror Terrell Williams) was unforeseeable when I made this post, what most certainly wasn't unforeseeable was both Colón and Lubin getting found out when they stepped up...and that summary assessment of both has finally come to pass in full measure, though Lubin was protected enough that his exposure took another 2 years...

Honestly even as of this very day Lubin himself came in with an impressive record on paper but if you actually scrutinize it having Cota (whose previous most notable moments in the ring are stopping ancient Campas and getting stopped by Rubio) as your best win isn't a great look for making the leap to championship tier, especially when you're looking to dethrone somebody with almost thrice as many pro rounds boxed and themselves undefeated with much better resume quality (to such a point where multiple names on that resume - in this case Martirosyan and Rosado, plus Chia Santana and maybe even the Hawk's kid - would easily demolish everyone on YOUR resume)

Rewind to a month ago, when Charlo was spitting truth about Lubin not belonging in the same ring as him:

Jermell Charlo: How the F*** Did Lubin Get a Shot at My Title?

    By Keith Idec

NEW YORK – Jermell Charlo cannot figure out why he is obligated to defend his title against Erickson Lubin.

The unbeaten 154-pound champion from Houston made a mandatory defense of his WBC super welterweight title when he knocked out Charles Hatley viciously in his last fight. And as far as Charlo can tell, the 21-year-old Lubin doesn’t deserve a title shot based on what he has accomplished during the first 3½ years of his pro career.

Regardless, Charlo (29-0, 14 KOs) will make a second mandatory defense of his title in less than six months when he battles Lubin (18-0, 13 KOs) on October 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Showtime).

“You’ve got a young guy, 21 years old, 18 fights,” Charlo told *******.com before a press conference Wednesday at Barclays Center. “In my heart, I don’t believe that this fight should be a fight that he deserves at this moment because when I was 25, I was barely getting a chance to fight for a world title. I didn’t win my first world title until I was 26. So how the f*** is this kid getting an opportunity like this?"

I'm bummed to hear Trout came up a little short, though. Was rooting for him.

Trout was doing very well in the early rounds and set a high pace, but the pace he set tired him and that lead him to become a easy target for Hurd.

Decent win but still doesn't put him back ahead of Jermall.

For a long time Jermell had the better opposition quality despite having the lower KO percentage and being perceived as the less exciting twin, but in the last year and a half Jermall passed him by leaps and bounds in the resume department with just three fights.

J-Rock, Heiland and Trout is a hell of a run and I feel like KO1ing Lubin, hype aside, doesn't amount to as good as any one of those wins.
