    Discuss.

We know G Groves had great success in his first fight vs Carl, and even the second fight until the knockout.

He looks to have a lot more confidence in himself nowadays, and just knocked out undefeated Cox.

    Hard to say

I was one of the few posters who said when they first fought that Groves would give Froch problems and favoured Groves to outbox Froch and win, which is what was happening before the controversial stoppage.
I wrote that I wasnt as confident for the return as often when a fighter losses their 0, they never seem the same or that it can take a long time to rebuild (Froch actually seems to come back better after official defeats).
I thought Groves looked the winner against Jack and thought he deserved that decision.
I am not sure that Groves is better now than he was when with Booth some years back.

Still Groves put on a good performance against Cox

He carries his hands too low and loves to trade. He can win rounds but froch will get him late in the fight.

    Yes and no.

Groves lost twice to Froch but the first especially was a close fight. On a good day for Groves and a bad one for Froch it could've definitely gone the other way. However, my opinion is that this version of Groves is not better than the younger Booth-trained version.

Froch is such a ....,i just dont know the right word for him,he was such a brilliant brawler and good boxer. But the only ? on his career was that Ward defeat,I wish he had a chance to avenge that defeat, then without question he is one the best middleweights in the world. But critics of him,can use it as evidence that he wasnt elite.People forget i believe he was past his prime in terms of strength, he was 34, Ward was a lion,he was strong and at his peak.I wish he had a rematch

I thought his loss of confidence and hunger came after the froching. Clearly he has got the spark back but I think he doesn't look as good now as he did before and during froch 1.

Froch is way too strong in the championship rounds and will stop any version of Groves toward the latter stages.

Groves tends to tire late and Froch would stop him on the ropes

Groves style is a bit Roy Jones Jnr'esque (I use this loosely! Before I get complaints) relying on timing and reactions. It's a style that can only decline with age as it did with Roy Jones. Not being critical, Groves is a very good boxer but I can't see him in the game for the long haul.

Groves is a visibily deteriorated fighter from the one who lost his 0 to Froch, even today.

Has his boxing improved in certain ways? Yes to some extent.

However his physically speed and explosiveness was a massive part of his game and this is visibly shop worn, partly as an account of him being dead at the weight at the age he is. Partly as an account of the physical biological affects of aging on the body.

He has also never been blessed with stamina as he always fades in fights.

He has less chance today of beating that version of Froch today. In fact if todays version was to go back to that fight, he would be getting stopped too.

I don't think current Groves is really any better than the Groves Froch fought twice. I think he's more experienced but I also think he's a little slower than he was.

Groves had 2 chances to beat Froch and came up short both times. As hard as he hits it still wasn't enough to keep Froch off him. Groves is an aggressive fighter and his aggression is what will always cost him against Froch, you can't fight fire with fire and he doesn't have the ability to box off the back foot to take away Carl's strengths like Ward did.

Eventually I always feel Froch would wear him down and get to him at some point.

This George groves is completely difference to the carl Froch, George groves.

Personally I feel cyclone have made him go backwards ok he's a world champ but on paper in a poor division. Cyclone are losing fighters each and everyday which also tells its on tell

    + to Destruction...

You might be able to argue that Groves is a more solidly orthodox fighter now than then - but even that is debatable - where some see more text-book technique, I see greater predictability.

To my mind, Groves' strength, the aspect that nearly beat Froch, was a herky-jerky, off-beat awkwardness - think Fury versus Klitschko - but with one-punch power. His previous losses seem to have made him meek and unwilling to throw the die. He is perhaps more defensively aware but has lost some of the element of surprise. He can still streamroller mediocre opposition like Cox, but that is no guide to his prospects against better opposition.
