I always thought Evander could parry the jab well, when he was sticking to his own jab. He could neglect stuff when trying to get closer agreed, and get caught with the jab, noticeably against Bowe, but I only thought he really got out jabbed by taller longer heavies. He wouldn't have that problem so much with Louis being his size

I'm reminded of RJJ vs Richard Hall. Hall showed plenty of heart, but boy was this a very one sided demolition.

Fitness, ruggedness ! Best conditioned heavy ever imo. That's why he could comeback being out on his feet so quickly, normally immediately

    Best conditioned heavyweight ever?

    No, not even close.

Frankly, he had serious conditioning issues!

Have you ever seem Joe Louis gas in a fight?

Max Baer hit harder than Holyfield.

    A lot harder!

Louis was probably in the same general power bracket as Bowe, Tyson, Lewis, and ancient Foreman, but he was a better finisher than any of them.

Max Baer probably hit harder than everybody mentioned above!

Prime Holy was serious gym rat, fit as ****. Conditioning was his forte. He had undiagnosed heart problems don't forget as well as fighting bigger stronger men in his big fights.

I don't entirely disagree with where you are going but Epstein is patently wrong. Owens is probably not in the top 20. Unless Raph Metcalfe is #3 All Time.

I had mentioned this the other day to someone. Studying louis would be like christmas to any competant fighter, alot of holes to pick through. Holyfield is exactly right. Using the SAME fighters ,Holyfield certainly heavy favored over louis. Im not really sure how difficult anyone really sees how much harder Holyfield is to defeat thana Joe louis type fighter just on the skills, lets forget the other things like speed/style and chin....

You do know that Full Automatic Timing would make him slower, right?

I dont think so. They would stop timing a few milliseconds after he would finish. Even if it would make him slower, how about track, spikes etc?

FAT adds about .2 seconds to a 100 meters... on average, which puts him at 10.5... which puts him about 10 meters behind Bolt.

Granted, track surfaces, training, "supplements" and career length (Owens quit at 22) have improved. But the .9 second difference represents another echelon completely. Tons of guys have run 10.5 on rough tracks, or handtimed 10.3. If you could insist this about Owens, you might have to say it was possible of another 500 guys.

Louis dropped Abe Simon with a jab...that's just nuts. Simon had a granite jaw.
