How would Golovkin have done in the MW division of the 80s and early 90s? I'm talking about guys like Jones Jr, Hopkins, Nunn, Toney, Kalambay, and McCallum.

Whether certain people wanna admit to it or not... GGG would be right there in the mix towards the top in ANY middleweight era. His jab, power, chin, stamina and overall boxing skills would be dangerous against ANYBODY in history at 160.

Given that 3G unified and is really prety much undisputed today, thats an indicator he would do well in the 90s winning 1 title, likely unifying late in his career. He would be a thorn in the side of wassen's wbo Brit-axis

the 80s is a substantially more dificult. He'd not budge hagler. He'd have to aim for a minor title. Thats not an insult, it took Sugar Ray to actually budge Marv.

He would have been a solid contender and took some losses.

From what we've seen so far, I think he'd definitely be in the mix, but he wouldn't be anywhere near as dominant as he is currently.

    That period was absolutely stacked:

    Marvin
    Ray
    Duran
    Hearns
    Roy
    Kalambay
    Toney
    Gerald
    Jackson
    Nunn
    Johnson
    McCallum
    Collins
    Benn
    Eubank
    Watson
    Graham

I don't think anybody in history could have dominated that division.

There hasn't been a fighter able to budge Golovkin and the current era are on average 10 lbs larger than the fighters of Haglers era. I don't know why people think Hagler wouldn't have a ton of trouble with a guy who is essentially a small LHW in the era of same day weigh ins. I see RJJ as a MUCH tougher test then Hagler for any MW in history.

well, if hes a LHW, then he wouldnt be compared to MWs, he'd be compared to LHWs.

However I was counting jones as transitory since he moved on from MW fast, allowing a hypothetical 3G is flourish at MW in the 90s. Bre no bones, if they met, JOnes would wreck him.

I'd have Sibbo a live underdog.

Golovkin wouldnt be in the top 50 in the 90’s. Wake me up when the Triple Whopper Supreme fights somebody with a pulse.

He's a MW today. I'm just pointing out that fighters in every division during same day weigh in era's were smaller than they are now. I don't think people are bright enough to adjust for that though. I mean really, people still try to compare Marciano to current Heavyweights.

why are people not bright enough to know that if you transport a MW stacked to LHW due to weighing times, to 1980, he would be a LHW.

Be just as great as he is right now. Can't say for certain he'd be undefeated after 38 fights. Rjj made a brief stop at mw, he was way too big, Toney ebbed up way way way to friggin large. Ggg would breezy hops down, BAD. Nunn and mcCalllum and eubank would ALL be great fights.

Our past greats get so laughably over rated. somehow they all turn into elite fighters that are the greatest of the greats. We all look back with rose colored glasses, judgements are silly when talking about the "greater" older days

You obviously didn't grow up through haglers career. He struggled with a could fighter that Murray would steam roll.
Lost to fighters no where remotely close to ggg. Ggg at 36 would be a 50/50 with a prime hagler
