Cotto didn't want to finish his Hall of Fame career the way Hopkins did, which was the surefire outcome of this fight.

Cotto wanted Lemieux to be under 160. Probably 157 and David would be absolutely weight drained. That's why the fight wasn't made...it was all about the weight issue.

Cotto wanted to fight at 154.

No way Lemieux could get down to it.

    End of story.

Any other speculation, no matter how obviously true or not, is simply that. I didn't think the Lemieux fight would happen; high risk/moderate reward. Just glad it isn't Margarito III.

Pretty sure it was Cotto's medical insurance company that scuttled this meeting.

No way were they going to cover this level of risk.

Who cares? Cotto has nothing to prove he has already fought the best, Lemieux hasn't prove anything only those 2 beat downs he got

Lemieux would have spun Cotto's head around excorcist-style. Bad matchup for Cotto, especially right now.

Well, Leumiux doesn't have a belt, so it gives cotto no incentives. Too dangerous with no reward.

Cotto at his best was a welterweight.

Lemieux would have knocked Cotto out, it would have been a very dangerous fight for Cotto, he would have gotten seriously hurt. It's time for Cotto to retire.............

Concur ^. Could have looked like the Gene Fullmer vs Benny Kid Paret mismatch.

I'm glad it didn't happen. Cotto is one of the most entertaining fighters of the last 15 years, but TBH he's far to small for Lemieux.
