I took HD footage of Joe Gans, and stabilized it. It helps reveal a short, quick 4 punch combo Gans lands on McGovern in the infamous fixed fight. The side effect to the stabilization is some screen tearing on the left side of the screen. https://streamable.com/39i2p
We have discussed the fight in the past. The film shows an aggressive McGovern landing a shot to Gan's ear region, which threw off his equilibrium. The shot clearly buckles Gans' knees on film and he does not fall as if he planned to. That was the first knockdown, and from Mcgovern jumps on him for the duration of the short fight, producing some knockdowns from clean shots, and others from not so clean shots. Gans fights back some. If it was a fix, Gans could have taken the count on quite a few knockdowns. The ref in the fight ( Siler ) looks like he bet on Gans. Indeed, he escorts Gans to his corner after a rough round one!
If I were only judging this based on the film, I'd agree. With clear film, McGovern is tossing some seriously leveraged punches. And Gans takes an unhealthy amount of them.
