    Jose Roman said his strategy was to box and move. Am I missing something or was Roman actually given a reasonable chance to beat Foreman? Jerry Quarry should've gotten this title shot.

    That thumbnail reminds me of what that fight would look like with modern cameras.
    Would look similar to an AJ mauling in ways.

    There are some training camp type films of Roman on You Tube. BTW, the full Quarry vs Shavers fight film with introductions and such, Commentator Don Dunphy states that the winner of this fight (i.e. Quarry) was to get the next shot at Foreman. Instead, they forced Quarry to rematch with Joe Frazier, and JQuarry would never have a chance to win, due to styles.

    Definitely, he would have imo put up a lot better fight. I'm not saying he would have won but he'd have hung in there and tried his best. Maybe.. Just maybe even hurt and rocked foreman. He should have been given a chance.

    The WBA originally refused to sanction this fight as Roman wasn't in their top 10. But then Foreman announced that he was going to go ahead and box for WBC recognition only, Roman mysteriously bobbed up into the WBA no.9 slot, and all was well.

    Foreman swinging for the hills with those wild wide hooks from both hands. This vid shows that no punchbag can withstand or counter those.

    Aside from Foreman beating Frazier, Foreman and Joe "King" had basically fought the same "usual suspects" leading up to that one - Chuck Wepner, Charley Polite, Don Waldheim, Jack O'Halloran, etc. Foreman beat Peralta, Roman beat Jose Urtain. Foreman beat Chuvalo, Roman beat Frazier title challengers Terry Daniels and Manuel Ramos.

    Foreman was a big favorite, like Joshua is over Takam, but I'm sure there were some stooges who thought Roman might have a chance to take him deep in the fight. Roman was ranked by the WBC, WBA and RING. So he was a contender. But Foreman was clearly much better.

    Roman was sort of like Manuel Charr is today, where he'd show up at fights he wasn't involved in and call people out. He did that a number of times. Here he is at the Ali-Bob Foster press conference. I don't even think Ali knew who the hell he was.
