Douglas deserves more credit. Tokyo tyson was better than tyson of bruno 1

Douglas exposed Tyson badly, that much so there's 1001 excuses of why he lost, never have I seen an ATG HW get dismantled so easily at his peak like that.

The Tyson of the Bruno fight had better stamina and was throwing more combinations. The Tyson of the Douglas fight was looking to land that one big punch very early into the fight so i don't buy into he was much better against Bruno.

That said, if Carl Williams had not gotten hit by that punch, it would have been an interesting fight, he had already hit Tyson with a jab before he got hit.

I think Douglas got enough credit. More than enough. What more can we say good about him. After the Tyson fight he fought Evander and was knocked out with a single counter right from a not so hard punching Holyfield and stayed down looking at his gloves. He has been given enough credit for the Tyson win and then some-relative to his whole career.

If Douglas had won a close decision in a competitive fight, they'd be a few hundred less excuses knocking around.
To this day people still can't get there head around the fact that the Tyson myth was a myth.

(And I'm not saying there wasn't a lot of substance to Mike Tyson, the world champion fighter - but "The Tyson Myth" is something different. To this day, people still buying into the myth rather than the reality.)

 

Of course, you have a point.
Everyone knows of Douglas PRECISELY BECAUSE he defeated and dethroned Mike Tyson.
But very often the mention of the FACT of his win is followed up with : "he didn't beat the REAL Tyson" or something like that ..... so that's taking credit from him as soon as giving it.

 

I guess he exposed that Tyson without his technique was always just a short heavyweight with a punch but without a plan B.
I disagree with that being his peak. But physical Prime? Sure. He would have still beaten most top HWs that night. But peak implies that on that night he couldnt possibly have been better and that the tyson of the douglas fight was the best tyson ever to step into the ring. I think we both know he had better skills under Rooney.
Douglas put in an ATG performance against a guy who had abandoned his technique but was in good enough shape to still knock him down after 8 hard rounds.

 

Tokyo Tyson was just as good as ever. He didn't look as good because Douglas didn't allow him to.

 

Have you never seen Lewis-McCall? Or Lewis-Rahman? Or Wlad-Sanders? Or Norton-Foreman? etc, etc, etc...

 

That is true. He beat the best Tyson which was ever beaten that is for sure. He looked great.. Had he only beaten a few more guys he would have had a hall of fame career, but he just crashed against the others.

 

Of course I have, they were basically blown out of there before they could get going.

 

People still can't accept the idea that we likely didn't see the absolute peak of Douglas in Tokyo either, you guys really believe Tyson was at the same level for every fight in which he won? You only look for an excuse after the loss.

 

No. I clealy stated that while tyson wasnt at his peak, he would have still beat most HWs on the planet in the condition he showed up and that Douglas put in an ATG performance and beat him up fair and square. I also said that tyson actually looked worse against bruno than douglas. Tyson on his best day would still struggle with that version of douglas. So you misunderstood me clearly.

 

They were all early blowouts and anyone can get caught early with a big shot (though Lewis has only himself to blame for the condition he came into the Rahman fight in) and stopped.

Tyson was thoroughly out boxed, dominated, beaten and dismantled by Buster Douglas over 10 rounds, which is a bit different to the aforementioned fights. Tyson's own hubris probably paid a large part in his loss but Douglas's jab, 13" reach advantage and right uppercut played just as big a part.
