I am not totally convinced he was so badly hurt to be knocked out and to be fair he didn't look to be knocked out cold as such. At the start of the round he had already told his corner that he had enough but they still pushed him out there. He needed to be pushed down and even then he is coherent enough to wipe his face with his gloves and is deliberately delaying getting up so that he can actually be counted out, it looked more like enough is enough, i am not doing this anymore. I have seen Lewis hit guys like Rahman and they immediately felt down, looked dizzy, dazzed confused.
I reckon he was physically knackered, disheartened and fighting a lost cause. The fight didn't need to go on longer. It was a decent shot that put him down but nothing like the Rahman one.
Yes he was for a few rounds wanying to quit but torn between wuitting and "taking it enough like a man" for no one to say anything.i think ultimately he knew enough was a enough but didnt want to quit on his stool in suchva big fight
The corner should've pulled him. When they were working on his cut, he let out a bit of a squeal when they applied pressure, plus he said he was done...All signals that he was finished and WANTED pulling out !
He thought about diving at one point. His knees sagged badly from a punch and he almost sat down from it (didn't the referee give him a sympathy count for that ?) but carried on. The last KD seemed genuine. I think he took a lot of punishment in that fight. It's a while since I've seen it and it's never been a fight I've gone back to much to view again and again. It's really not a good fight, not a good spectacle.
Come on. Did you see the replay of that last shot? He took plenty of punishment. That being said, if he had theoretically badly hurt lewis right before being knocked down, i reckon MAYBE he could have beat the count. Mike still had a cast iron jaw even if he had been mentally unfit to fight ever since he left prison where he had reverted to being the con artist thug he was before he started boxing. Amazing how many punches he took considering what kind of unfit physical and mental condition he was in.
That is my point. He went down but he didn't look knocked down or incoherent, he had the sense to wipe blood of his face and if he felt he could win the fight, i am pretty sure he would have gotten up quicker, but what you see is a guy deliberately slowly getting up and deliberately wanting to miss the count.
He was done It was probably smart to not get up. He didn't need to take any more. To me, when you take a dive you try to make it look legit, but you take as little punishment as possible. If Tyson was going to take a dive, he would have done it much earlier, before he sustained a beating.
That doesn't mean they are "taking a dive." It just means they are beaten and choose not to take any more punishment.
He was a done for. Essentially gassed after round three. I think Tyson might have been able to get up once after Lewis landed and pushed him down, but Tyson was never a mentally strong fighter, and he knew he was done for. Tyson almost quit in-between rounds and acted like a rather soft when they were working on a cut. Like many big fights, this one should have happened 2-3 years sooner
Max Baer refused to get up against Louis. He said, "What's the sense of getting up just to get knocked down again?" Same scenario regarding Tyson vs Lewis.
