And if you were Kevin Rooney, how would you have Tyson fight Louis?

For Louis: Jab and move, find a window to land a short jolting right down he pipe. This guy is short, but hefty and strong, likes to explode like a cannon, and punches faster than Dempsey, so stay on your toes! He's a deceptively smart boxer too, so this guy is no joke. You still got him punch for punch, so bait the hook with a jab, block and counter with that very short mule kick hook. Stop his rhythm with one power punch, and go for the finish. If you can disrupt his rhythm, he won't have much for you Joe. If he gets his rhythm back, jab and move.

For Tyson: Work on jab and head movement right outside the pocket. Conserve power punches for openings. Go into a higher gear with explosive rushes when he's already bothered to surprise him. Don’t force it. If you have him hurt, aim for the finish, but remain disciplined throughout, as Louis is dangerous while vulnerable.

Pretty much. Except i think it would have to be a long brutal demolition if louis won. I cant see him getting tyson outta there or even hurt him badly enough to finish with one power shot. He was never chinned aka dropped with a punch(or a combination for that matter) to the head without being exhausted, battered and outclassed for several rounds first.

Tyson is much more likely to get lucky with one big shot since louis could be surprised and dropped by lesser fighters but reznicks gameplans are on point imo

If Louis threw the hook would come but it would come fast after Tyson slipping the jab so it`s a risk. If I were Rooney I would watch the first Schmeling fight he caught Louis with the counter right over his low lead after he jabbed, he also got off first and messed up Louis`s brilliant stance I saw it on a film study by Lee Wyle. Also every time Tyson set himself to punch v Douglas, Buster took a half step back and the attack was neutralised, if I was Louis trainer I would look at that as a tactic.

If I was Jack Blackburn I'd know far more than I can know, so I don't know what I would have Louis do. Something simple but amazing.

If I was Kevin Rooney I'd shouting out a series of numbers at Tyson and see what happens.

I gotta disagree with you here. I agree Mike has a good chin but if a prime Joe Louis squares him on the button Tyson is gonna be hurt. Louis was perhaps the greatest finisher that ever fought. Both of these guys can knock out their opponent with either hand.

I think Blackburn would have to tell Louis to go right at Tyson and hurt him early. Once he shakes Mike it would take the edge of his aggression away and then Joe could have more time and room to get his combination off from the outside or even mid range.

Backing off gives Tyson his momentum,I would fight him like Evander did, with the added advantage of that piston jab and those smooth combos. Tyson? I would tell him to use head movement coming in, keep low.Maybe spend a couple of rounds just working the body, keep a high guard and unload as he got close.

Louis has two key advantages over Tyson:

    3. He can use his forward momentum against him.
    1. He can own Tyson on the inside.

His problem is 2, the world of sh1t between.

That is effectively my plan for Louis.

Now if I was training Tyson, I would absolutely drill him on infighting, because that might just be decisive.

I would tell him to jump on Louis if he got him hurt, despite the risks involved.

I think that Tyson needs to set some kind of trap, in case he can't steamroll Louis.

The biggest question mark for Tyson would be between the ears. If he doesn't steamroll Louis with his initial onslaught what then? If Louis cracks him back does Mike`s punch output drop? Does he throw one punch at a time, tighten up and start leaning? If Tyson keeps his hands moving then he has a good shot win the fight but then your open when your punching. Joe could counter.

Charley Goldman remarked about how smart Joe Louis was as a boxer. According to Goldman a fighter could use a move against Louis in the 2nd round and get away with it but when he tries that same move again in the 7th Joe ices the guy and puts his robe on.

I think the 1st round of this hypothetical matchup could be the heavyweight version of Hagler/Hearns 1st round

Fighting Tyson in a way similar to how he fought Max Baer would be the best way

Tyson could counter also! There`s also a film study about Tyson`s adjustments in the ring under Rooney like when he was fighting Tucker and struggled early on Rooney told Mike to get under the jab and throw left uppercuts to the body the next round he consistently threw vicious uppercuts to the body after slipping the jab that would be a great tactic vs Louis great jab, plus Louis body was much thinner than Tucker`s so might not take body shots of that power so well, he never took shots of that power to the body, Buddy Baer was huge and powerful but he couldn`t throw body shots like Mike which include his signature combo of right hook to the body bringing the head down so the uppercut could follow, Dundee said Mike was the best combo puncher he had seen but then again a lot of experts say Louis was greatest combo puncher there ever was, Ray Robinson said Robi had the quickest hands he`d ever seen but Mike was also amazingly quick-fisted, this would be one of those fights so tight the one who makes the most mistakes will lose in my opinion.

In what way was Max Baer lie Tyson? He certainly didn`t have Mike`s hand speed.

Both Tyson and Louis would show far better defense than Hearns and Hagler did in their first round of "the war". Something was wrong with Hearns legs in that fight, Louis movement would be economical but nimble and he`d use his half step backwards to stop Tyson starting his attacks the same way Douglas did.
