I think Takam fought but I don't think he'll be given a rematch. At the end of the day he was an opponent brought in to replace an injured fighter. He fought well but he did lose almost every round (bar one imo) and He fought very well but Hearn and co will just move Joshua on to bigger and better things. I agree about the stoppage tho. That was terrible. It had a points win written all over it.
People will always (rightly) say, think of Watson or McLellan. I've no problem with this logic, if applied consistently, but it only ever gets applied to the away fighter. The home fighter gets every chance when he gets in trouble. You just knew tonight as soon as AJ landed a flurry the fight was getting waved. It is **** for Takam, whilst being beaten easily, he wasn't out of it. This being said, it was a one sided fight, although not a beating by any means - however, Joshua was easily winning. I'd have little appetite for a rematch.
Tbh, I wasn't keeping tabs. I'm working away from home and was watching on my phone - it did cut out a few times early on. Got to see from round 3 uninterrupted. Joshua was seemingly winning rounds easily without giving out too much of a beating.
Stoppage was premature but it wasn't a particularly competitive fight and Takam seems like he could be one of those guys who might be too tough for their own good, will take too much punishment.
I haven't watched the fight yet, but from what I hear Takam showed his durability once again which is no surprise, but 8-2(taking your word for it) shouldn't warrant a rematch, despite people claiming a bad stoppage.
No need for a rematch, Joshua would have won on the scorecards if the ref never wanted to protect the "image" of KO artist. Joshua's done no wrong here, its the corrupt officials. Josh just beat a legit top ten contender, who many have struggled with in the past. There's always those booogymen in boxing.
Yeah, it's all about the poor stoppage. I wouldn't actually mind seeing the rematch but it's not a situation which really demands it. I have no problem with AJ pursuing Wilder/Parker etc. instead.
Yeah I agree... But it definitely should earn him another big fight. Hearn should set up a fight with Whyte to pay Takam back for his taking the fight on short notice as well as the disgraceful officiating against him. Takam comfortable UD.
BS stoppage, but I dont think that Takam could have won the fight by any means. Brave fighter, shitty guard though.
Takam should have been disqualified for the headbutt, it was nasty. Can really change fights, with those kind of fouls. Joshua fought with little composure tonight. Seems there's pressure to stop everyone inside the distance, which won't always happen, it will be Anthony's main weakness in the near future.
