AJ was 'supposed' to take out Takam early. Ref had to stop it to keep the 100 percent KO ratio and make AJ seem unbeatable. Not taking nothing away from AJ tho.
The stoppage was bull**** but he won 1-2 rounds max. If takam deserves a rematch based of winning 2 rounds he needs to rematch Povetkin and Parker first because he took more rounds off them than he did Joshua. Joshua beat Takam more convincingly than anyone else.
Rematches are usually for close, entertaining fights. This was neither. If Takum landed one good punch in the fight I must have missed it. AJ has bigger and better things to move on to
You win some and you lose some, but the best need to fight the best.. We need an undisputed HW champion
Only people who thought AJ was going to end this quickly were fans who have fallen for the AJ hype machine. When has Takam ever been blown out quickly? When has he even been totally outclassed. He was even on the scorecards after 8 rounds with Povetkin and gave Parker all kinds of trouble.
exactly. If Kim Jong Un blasted a nuclear bomb, Takam would still be standing. He was never meant to get finished quickly. Casual fans and the ladies that watch AJ for his body worship him like hes a God. Regardless, AJ is still #1.
I do think the fight was stopped early, but the ref made his decision based on his opinion at that moment in time, he is in there seeing the fighters up close and personal, seeing fighters eyes, reactions etc. Refs have made incorrect decisions in the past even ones that would have altered Heavyweight championship history, eg Firpo should have got the ko win against Dempsey if the rules were enforced. You can never stop a fight too early. You can only stop one too late.
Bollocks. The ref robbed Takam of the chance of taking Joshua into unknown territory in a world championship fight after battling hard to stay in the fight. It is unforgivable.
He also possibly prevented him from being seriously injured. It would be more unforgivable if he had gotten brain damage.
Your point would be valid if Takam was taking sustained punishment, however we know through video evidence that the last several punches which caused the ref to jump in and stop the fight, never landed clean. He never gave Takam a chance to fire back even though he was bobbing and weaving and looking lively on his feet. No evidence whatsoever that he was in no state to continue. If Joshua was taking those shots do you really believe the ref would have put him in a headlock and waved the fight off?
I'm not really high for a rematch but he would've deserved a chance to lose on points or get knocked down. Or starching AJ at the end of the fight.
