Does Patterson's speed and skill help him out box Joe Frazier or would Frazier be too strong for Floyd Patterson? I think Patterson would be a live opponent for Fraizer.

Mack Truck vs a Ferrari, on a one lane road. And Frazier the Mack Truck.

Patterson was a fine fighter with tons of heart. A good boxer with pretty snappy power. I just don't think he can take Joe Frazier`s punch. It`s impossible to avoid Frazier in there. Nobody ever could you had to fight him.

When watching him fight Ali in the 2nd fight, he looked bigger than Fraizer did against Ali in FOTC. Even though he was about 20 or so lbs heavier

His chin would still get in the way though.

Well I guess there goes my hope that perhaps Patterson could have out boxed a 1973 George Foreman

I'm one of the people who actually thinks Patterson was not glass chinned. He got knocked out by Liston like Frazier did by Foreman. And by Johannson. But otherwise? He ended on his ass a lot due to style-induced balance issues but overall his chin was decent.
However, I think Frazier's continues onslaught would have gotten to him eventually. Patterson's skill, speed and power would pose a problem for Frazier though and I can see Floyd rocking him a bit.

Hey Bodhi! I agree Floyd was not 'china-chinned' as Floyd himself put it. He was rising against Sonny who said he'd never hit anyone harder. He kept rising against Ingo in the first. IMO Joe would always win prime vs. prime...via TKO; NO ONE put Floyd in a face down puddle.
Interesting that, had Floyd got the nod in the Ellis fight (past prime) he would have been the other champion along with Joe. What would have been his options? I always thought he might complete the trilogy with Quarry first.
Had he fought Joe, I think it could have been competitive for a few rounds with Joe being a slow starter; of course Patterson sometimes started slow too.
Also consider that Patterson seemed to be, almost exclusively, prone to big rights.
In closing, Joe too much for Floyd, at some point, but he certainly wouldn't have embarrassed himself circa mid-69. We all would have had the utmost respect for him after he had he fought Joe.
    R.I.P. Champ! Joe too!
