I don't profess to be more knowledgeable than you or 90% of the posters here. Both Frazier and Lewis were beaten inside the distance. The difference is Lewis avenged both his losses. What's the nearest facsimile to Frazier that Lewis fought?Tua?How many rounds did he win against Lewis? Frazier was behind against unranked Mathis a quick-handed fat boy who lacked both a punch and stamina .It took Frazier 11 rds to get a stoppage there and Buster was on his feet when it was called off. Frazier was a fine man and possessed terrific heart ,and a great left hook ,that would not be enough against a huge two handed punching superheavyweight who was 6 inches taller, outreached him by11 inches ,and outweighed him by35lbs!
Frazier can only trouble Lewis if he's close; Lewis can trouble Frazier from long range or up close. This is the problem for Joe. Frazier is going to be dealing with heavy artillery coming in, and that weight disparity makes a difference when the guy is jabbing the bejeezus out of you, then leaning on your neck and tying you up when you get to your optimal range... Its much more taxing energy-wise.
I disagree. Did Ali manage to control distance in his first fight with Frazier? Didn't he have faster hands? Didn't Ali have the ability to keep more distance between himself and Frazier? Now you can disagree with this and it is your opinion to do so. There is nothing deceitful in saying I think Frazier, against Ali, could be extremely effective at range and proved it.
From what I've been reading there's a lot of dumb posters on this forum. Not for picking Lewis but for the reasons they pick Lewis. It's so one dimensional and they only go for the obvious stuff like size and power(which makes no sense).
Yeah, good ol Frazier, he is walking thru Lewis's 6-7 feet kill zone while eating every punch in the book while coming in as witnessed from all his previous fights and then gets "smoking", I never had a better laugh......Frazier was going DOWN from GRAZING Foreman telegraphed blows..............Lewis is a way more accurate puncher than Foreman ever will be and that right hand will LAND FLUSH resulting in a similar KO to the Rahman 2 blow out. Frazier does not have the speed, power and chin of Tyson who I would I bet my house on to get to Lewis's mediocre chin.
This is all based on the Frazier after his short prime. The Frazier that was rumoured to be too injured to continue with his career after 1971. This is all based on the guy Foreman fought and not the guy that beat an unbeaten Muhammad Ali. This is all based on Foreman! For all the amusing schtick about ping pong balls, yoyo's and moon cratered faces not one person has answered me about Frazier being the same guy who beat Ali when he met Ron Stander, Terry Daniels or George Foreman. That's not the same guy. Step forward and throw your name into the hat if you really think Frazier was as good for Stander as he was for Ali. Until you do nobody can laugh at Frazier and insist Lewis beats him based on Foreman.
Actually no. Ali retreated to the ropes because he trusted neither his stamina or his legs. Frazier coud not be extremely effective at range, his lack of reach and height precluded it.When he began boxing he started out as a jabber,Yank Durham told him," your arms are too short, you are too short, you have to learn to get inside where you can be effective."
How about better skills and two handed power, proven against superheavyweights? ps Size? How many 205 lbs heavyweights have been rated in the top ten in the last ten years?
The arguments here are ridiculous,Lewis fights nothing like young Foreman, end of story. Young Foreman was a reckless punching machine, with a granit chin. The key was that long range uppercut by Foreman, Lennox does not throw that cause it is way too risky.
