True. But Canelo is still young and just officially moved up after he beat JCC JR. That win is better than Trinidad’s win over Cherifi. Had Canelo beat GGG it would have been a better win than Tito’s win over Joppy. I think when it’s all said and done, Alvarez will have etched out a much more robust middleweight legacy than Trinidad

A draw against GGG is better than anything Trinidad done at middle. Joppy and cherifi ? Nah...He lost every other fight at the weight Tito.

Thanks....but really....I can’t hold a candle next to Albert. However, I appreciate the compliment.

I think we all know the fight was at a catch weight of 164, but Alvarez was always planning to move up to 160....not 168. Try not to over complicate things. This is not at all complex

Posts like this will make a lot of pu**ies bleed.. But TBH honest he is great but I dont think he's in the same level as a fighter like Hagler... We have to look at the level of competition also.. I think Hopkins in his prime fits the bill for the greatest since Hagler or at least gets close to it.. But GGG is great for sure.

whilst he didnt clean out the division, he did unify the belts as far anyone should be concerned, thats very true, and this is why I say 3G is the number 1 MW even if hes not lineal.

neither has canelo, yet his one win vs cotto still tops anything 3g has done in MW.

thats what makes canelo an elite - he came up, took the lineal, without even barely acclimatizing.

He is considered the lineal world champion at 160 having all the major world titles. Golovkin beat Alvarez even though it was recorded a draw.

    no hes not.

you cant just write something false and pretend its true. Canelo remains lineal, that can be changed by anyone writing anything different.

Clearly the lineal has variable value since 3G has numerically done more at MW.

However I am backing 3G to add the lineal in the rematch, hopefully with a legacy fight or two to top it all against say Cotto or an elite again.

BJS saunders really doesnt figure in this. Hes a funny guy, likeable, one of the few people in boxing with a intelligent sense of humour, but hes not relevant until he proves himself with some work.

To be the Lineal Champion you have to defeat the Lineal Champion "officially" which Gennady was not able to do. So therefore, in no way is he considered the Lineal MW Champion. You can consider him your Lineal Champion because you disagree with the verdict, but to be the actual Lineal Champ you have to "really" win it, not just "win it according to JohnnyDrama99".

I think the Cotto win was a good one for Alvarez but I don’t think anyone really gave Miguel the distinction of being a true Middleweight. He was the lineal world champ at 160 however, he beat Martinez at a catch weight and Alvarez beat Miguel at a catch weight. Not that it diminishes those wins, it just places an asterisk next to those victories. I think GGG’s win over Danny was a better win than Alvarez’s win over Cotto, but I know that is debatable.

he came up and beat Martinez. that makes the feat all the more appreciable, it doesnt diminish it.

Luck helped, with SM coming back from injury at the time and being on a low ebb. He'd have been beaten by someone soon if he hadnt fought cotto.

Anyone who asks the question who the world champ is at 160, no one ever says Alvarez. Everyone says Golovkin. Just as most everyone says GGG beat Alvarez. Was it recorded as a win? No, but the overall consensus is GGG beat Canelo and GGG is the “man” at middleweight. Alvarez could win the rematch if it ever happens, but his lineal title at this weight doesn’t have much value...no more than him holding one of the 5 belts

thats fine, I have no truck with this (outside mexico anyway). And I agree that lineal has variable weight, but its still the lineal.

but you cant invent facts and ask me to accept them like you did earlier.

I know and understand that. Since Alvarez beat Miguel who beat Martinez who beat Pavlik who beat Taylor who beat Hopkins....That makes Canelo the lineal champ. I just never gave Cotto much credit as a Middleweight or the lineal Middleweight champ after he won that title from Martinez at a catch weight. Alvarez beat Miguel at a catch weight for the lineal title as well so I consider it watered down a bit. Regardless of how Alvarez performed against GGG and the controversy around it...it’s true he is the lineal champ...but no one really gives him the distinction of being the “man” at 160. That distinction goes to Golovkin
