Ankrah looking to be a typical Ghanaian journeyman (don't even know for sure, without looking at BoxRec, just going by his surname and style.. edit: yup, Ghanaian), showing nothing but a high left jab from a conventional guard while circling lackadaisically at mid-range. Fayfer varying his attack to head and body.

 

Fayfer KO2!!! Brutal left rip on the liver just after they answered the bell, tricking Ankrah into lifting the guard even higher so the elbows went above his nips to provide a nice clear target by peppering Ankrah's face with sharp lead rights and quick sneaky jabs.

Ankrah still taking a knee a full minute after getting knocked out. That one hurt.

 

Chin for all we know could be iron, but putty-guts.

 

Ruslan Fayfer is now 22-0 (15).

He showed quick & educated hands to set & spring his trap on Ankrah. Nicely alternating real & feinted left hooks on the body/left jabs up top had Ankrah confused and pulled the plug on his defenses.

For a guy I've never heard of, he actually has some decent names on his résumé. Fulgencio Zuniga and Junior Wright are former world title challengers. Cesar David Crenz isn't but used to mix with some top-notch competitors and had some good scalps at domestic level (most notably Orlando Farías and former champ Hugo Hernán Garay).

It was rumored this might be sanctioned for the vacant WBC Silver title as well as the WBA's bauble.

 

Yeah, that's fair. Coming off a 2¼ year layoff you probably shouldn't be able to just beat Jaudiel Zepeda (up at light heavyweight, no less) and then compete for a prize like the Silver title. We make fun of it, but it really is the equivalent of any legit "just short of world" title of bygone days. I'd say it rates a little more prestigious than a Euro belt, maybe?

WBA Intercontinental, on the other hand, can be obtained from a Cracker Jack box. So makes sense this is still for that.
