Just watched that showtime special on the fight buildup, when they were talking about how he had broken hands, torn biceps, shoulders etc... against Stiverne and Arreola.. Well, do you think this is due to the fact that he is so sloppy and swings wildly with those windmill hailmarys?? This is the only reason I can think of.. There is a big chance that Wilder can re-activate one of those injurys on saturday.
You have to understand that the field of wind-based renewable energy is fraught with peril! Don't knock my man Winder.
If every heavyweight swung like a madman in a bar room brawl throwing everything they had into a closed gaurd while at the same time tripping over yourself and over stretching they would all be getting these injuries all the time. Wilders technique is poor. But that poor technique means he gets serious power in most things he throws. Thats why everybody wants to see him in with the good Boxers instead of the fat slobs. Will the power win him the fights or the poor technique cost him the fights.
Great post. Exactly this. There's no reason why Wilder couldn't combine decent boxing technique with windmilling to finish. But, he needs to step it up.
I just hope he doesn't retire undefeated due to injuries. I don't know if I could stand all the Haye-like comments that would follow on the site about how he could have done this and he could have beaten so-and-so ...
He was relying too much on his raw athleticism. That tends to wear your body out faster. After the shoulder and hand injuries he was forced to vary up his punch selection, since he was over using that right hand.
