if yo argue lewis had to fight at 38, then you are arguing that ALL THE HW CHAMPS IN HISTORY WERE WRONG NOT TO ATTEMPT TITLE DEFENCES AT 38 too.

You'd have to prove them all wrong, starting with JL Sully right up to Lewis.

If anyone want to try this,by all means go ahead, someones always gotta try ice skating uphill.

Nobody really cared after Vitali fought Lewis because he proved his heart and ability. The fight could've come off after that, but Vitali was MIA due to his injuries. I don't think it's that important because it's fairly obvious Vitali would win.

On the other hand, Wlad avenging Sanders would've done a lot for his legacy.

Not all the HW champs in history claimed that they were better than ever at 38 and AGREED TO A REMATCH.

    Moving on ...

Hogwash....VK would have decisively beaten Byrd in a rematch. It was foolishness of Vitali to not have sought out a rematch...and conversely, Byrd benefited greatly and undeservedly from no rematch.

If Vitali thought that he would've taken the rematch. He got a lot of bad press for quitting on his stool against a guy half his size who traveled over on two weeks notice. He needed to set the record straight but a better prepared Byrd would have started to out-box him earlier and Vitali knew it. Byrd made Vitali look like a skill-less oaf in that fight.

Vitali made a serious mistake in picking a highly skilled opponent in Byrd, even if he was a LHW to superheavy vitali.

He didnt rematch him because he didnt want to repeat the mistake.

It's funny to see them throwing the same arguments at each other. For what now 10 years? :D
