I understand that. But the example you use is two world class guys. Khan was as good as he was going to be and always too fragile for canelo. In that instance you could find a more robust version of Khan lasting the distance, not getting his lights put out, and winning on points. The examples I show are inferior guys having marginal success who are not only more fragile than any world champion but certainly inferior in every way to Marciano. Qawi got tired where Rocky wouldn't. And the other examples Trane and Martin would have the power to make the impression they needed. What's wrong with that?
But Bald George was a very poor champion. An accidental champion if you like. Nobody missed him. Slower than a molasses. Not that accurate. What world class fighter did Bald George use as a bowling ball? Holyfeild? Morrison? Those two were the best he fought. They don't beat Rocky.
Not that accurate, watch him against Cooney! Against Qawi ,Foreman was performing with just 24 rounds of boxing under his belt in the last 10 years! He was still finding his way back.
Yes, a sitting duck. Part time boxer too. Cooney had no relevance to world level at that time. But I admit for highlight reel purposes I can see how some might think it's relevant. Bald George, the accidental champion, loses to 51' Joe Louis. He's not beating Pinklon Thomas, Trevor Berbick either. That version of George is only 50-50 with Leon Spinks. Nobody has convinced me he wasn't.
Foreman was slated to fight Berbick right after he smashed Cooney. Early odds were 4-1 in favor of Foreman before the fight fell thru.
That is interesting. Did the fight fall through because George did not want it? Apparently George point blank turned down Anders Eklund. He was very picky about who he would fight in his comeback. He knew his limits and was very shrewd
Refresh our memory with the names of the 24 years old 224lbs 6'2" ranked heavyweights that Marciano beat.
Johnny Shkor was nearly 6'5", 220lb and 29 years old. Will that do? He was recently rated and the physical dimensions did not bother him. Regardless of age I believe Joe Louis was taller than both Holyfeild and Morrison. He was rated higher than Morrison too.
Interesting. I believe Berbick of the Thomas fight would blast Bald George of the Moorer fight to smithereens. George simply was never really an elite fighter on his comeback. An accidental champion. He knew his limits. Hence dropping out of the Berbick fight and others.
Marciano is one tough mutha, can he last out the foreman grilling? Can foreman survive the Rocky's drunken hammering body attack long enough to ko him? Superior firepower over greater toughness. The irresistable force vs the immovable object. not sure either way.
That is certainly reasonable for prime vs prime. But prime Rocky vs Bald George is another proposition entirely. That version of George was a bit of a selective chancer trading on his hamburger schtick and previous status. Very little substance.
