Well there you go then. If someone can show me proof of a rematch clause I'll happily eat humble pie.

He didnt breach anything .There would have NEVER been a rematch clause with Tyson the 40 to 1 favorite bc no one on earth besides Douglas's relatives and afew Tyson insiders thought he was going to win.

Jim Binns, the legal counsel of the W.B.A., said from Philadelphia: ''Buster Douglas is the W.B.A.'s champion. He is an unfettered, unencumbered champion. There is no requirement of a rematch with Tyson.''

Tyson was supposed to be the mandatory number 1 challenger for the winner of Douglas/Holyfield

I am looking at the list of law suits that took place:

Don King sued Douglas for breach of contract, after he signed for the Holyfield fight.

Donald Trump also sued Douglas, because he had invested money in the Douglas Tyson rematch.

he should have done what Mayweather does. Fight a guy at the right time when he knows the guy is on the downside.. There is an art to this. Ray Leonard did it with Hagler a little and then Lalonde. He underestimated Hearns and should have paid for it with a loss.

Was Leonard prime when he fought Hagler?
I ask this because I was under the impression he was coming back from a 3 years retirement?

Leonard was 31 when he fought Lalonde ,Lalonde was 28.After losing this fight Lalonde won his next 4 fights by stoppage and didn't lose again for 5 years ,dropping a dec in his last fight to Virgil Hill.
After drawing with Leonard ,Hearns won his next 4 fights then lost to Barkley,he then went another 8 years before losing again!

I rewatched the highlights lastnight, Tyson was nowhere near as bad as folk like to think. Douglas was on fire plain and simple, he beats any version of Tyson in that shape and with that intent. He knocked the stuffing out of him good and proper no doubt about that.

I remember Douglas always managing to get his punches off first, just before Tyson got in too close. I think it was a well worked out plan. Douglas was a big guy and using his size and good skills would make it awkward for Tyson to get inside without taking shots. I didn't see the fight live as I stayed at my mate's house (his 16th birthday party) but saw on the news about 7 in the morning that Tyson lost. I thought "bloody hell" I watched it later the next day and thought Tyson maybe wasn't quite as fit and sharp as he could've been (although it's easy to look good when you are knocking people over in quick time) and thought "I can't wait for the rematch" I think it was the following week Douglas was interviewed on Grandstand and he said he would be back in the ring in Sept (it ended up being Oct) but there was no mention of a rematch. Of course back then the news wasn't as easy to access and no youtube, podcasts etc. After Douglas lost to Holyfield I think the only possibility of a rematch would've been if Holyfield had fought Tyson and not Foreman in the April. If Tyson won (at the time of watching that fight I thought Tyson had a chance) then the rematch with Douglas could've been on I suppose. A rematch in the late summer of 1990 would've been so huge though, everyone wanted to see that.
A quick question for Wass. What did you think of Buster's performance against Holyfield do you think he wasn't interested and do you think he could've got himself fired up for a Tyson rematch?

Ray was not prime, but that demonstrates even more how Ray knew when to fight guys, and Quincy Taylor rocking him was a good thing to show Ray to box and not fight. There is an art to fighting guys at the right time and guys like Ray and Floyd knew how to do it.

So I'm right and your premise is blown out of the water by facts? Okay.

You want to be right without proving anything and really reading what I said? Ok you are right if that makes you feel good. Floyd handpicked guys who were not prime. And knew when to fight them. There is an art to handpicking which guys like Floyd and Bernard and Leonard -1987 and on used. surprised Ray did not do that with Norris. The point is there are times to fight guys and using tactics like weight and ring issues. Inactivity is a big one.

That's a question nobody will ever know, you'd have thought becoming champion would have given him the incentive to want more but i think he was a one hit wonder. Of course he had the talent and potential to be a great fighter but he didn't have the mentality. I'm still not sure wether Douglas could ever beat Holyfield though, a different kettle of fish.

I read what you said. That Leonard got guys at the right time ,ie when things were loaded in his favour Leonard fought Hagler after a 3 years retirement and with no warm up fights.Hagler had kod Mugabi 11 months earlier.
You want to tell me that was the right time for Leonard but not Hagler? When Leonard fought Lalonde ,Lalonde was 3 years younger and had lost just 2 of his 33 fights .Leonard had one fight in the previous 19 months ,Lalonde had fought 6 months earlier.

"After drawing with Leonard ,Hearns won his next 4 fights then lost to Barkley,he then went another 8 years before losing again!
Your theory is not supported by facts. I'm specifically talking about Leonard here, and I've proven my point.
