Does anyone at 160 today stand a chance against a prime Roy Jones jr?

I'm biased against any fighter that cheats not only him.
Roy was defending his titles against part time fighters. schoolteachers , police officers. mail carriers & even an Aussie garbage collector instead of fighting his legitimate challenges like Darius M & B Hop

He fought Hopkins. It was Hopkins who priced himself out of a rematch. The Darius M situation has been exhausted mate.

    Curious though, who was the:

    School teacher
    policeman
    mail carrier?

Roid Jones always refused to fight Michalczewski because he knew he would have gotten knocked out! Roid just fought non-fighters most of the time.

    shadow111,

Of course, I didn't mean that Canelo literally wouldn't have had a chance of winning. But I honestly wouldn't have given him any realistic chance of winning.

Canelo's a great fighter. He did great against GG in his first official MW fight. But we don't know how he'd fare against the other MW's at this stage.

Realistically, what could he have done against Roy? He's smaller, and Roy would have had a huge speed advantage. He was also very elusive and he possessed one punch knockout power in either hand.

Canelo was greatly troubled by Floyd's speed and movement. Whilst I'm willing to accept that today's 2017 version is more matured, I still think he'd have trouble with Floyd's speed.

Lara's speed troubled him. I don't even know if he beat Lara.

Roy would have just pot shotted him.

I don't think Canelo would ever have gotten close enough to Roy to have caused him any serious issues. I also think Canelo would have been extremely cautious.

That certainly wasn't the best version of James who fough Roy. Him struggling with Wright takes the shine off the win. But in my honest opinion, I think the result would have been replicated against a version of James who was 100%. Because I think Roy was unique, and it was just a horrible stylistic match up for James. I also don't believe that Canelo has the skill set that James had.

Again, I don't think this current version of Canelo would be far more difficult than the version of James that Roy fought.

I don't think he'd have had any answer to Roy's speed.

Again, what you were trying to say, was:

    "A guy of Dempsey's size"

    So:

The guy who has repeatedly said: "Joe would have mutilated Ward"

has a problem with me saying: "Canelo wouldn't have had a chance to have beaten Roy"

    Makes sense.

I see you've resorted to making up fictional quotes like one of your boyfriends.

    Great.

The TS is looking at today's division, not at the fighters throughout the history of the division.

Roy would have been heavily favoured over any of today's MW's.

Roy wasn't a baby when he fough Tate at 25, which was about 5/6 months before he fought Toney.

What fighters did he refuse to fight?

So you keep saying. Yet when I press you to debate, you can't.

Roy fought low level mandatories like EVERY fighter does. But he also fought: Hopkins, Toney, Griffin, Hill, Reggie, Ruiz and Tarver etc.

Again, Roy was happy to fight Dariusz in the U.S. but he didn't want to take 3 belts to Germany. And considering he'd been robbed in Seoul, he'd seen Dariusz cheat, and Germany was notorious for terrible decisions, I think his actions were justified.

How many times do I need to explain to you that Bernard demanded $10m or no fight?

No. What I said was match Jones up against fighters his own size. And have already explained why Dempsey should be considered.

Can someone please remind me which ATG, doesn't even need to be prime, that Golovkin fought and beat?

93 Hopkins was just as fast, if not faster than Canelo and had more, better knockouts - before you **** your pants out of confusion please tell me which natural middleweight Canelo has knocked out? Roy schools Canelo.

Golovkin is too slow and easy to hit. Prime Roy is too powerful, too elusive and too smart to be simply run over. And his jaw is not glass - he took fair shots from Hopkins, Toney, Griffin, even HW Ruiz and never looked hurt until the Tarver fights.

How do you see 2017 Canelo matching up with 1994 RJJ at MW?
