Top P4Ps, Not So High in 1 Weight Class

Some fighters may rank very highly on many people's ATG pound for pound lists, yet not so high in one particular weight class. I could think of Fitzsimmons or Langford as examples (although I have them both in my top 3 light heavies, I completely understand why others' criteria preclude them). Who are other examples? For example, who would be in your top 20 or 30 all time P4P, yet not in the top few within a specific weight class? Hearns? McGovern? Dixon? Any thoughts? I'm just trying to learn, by finding some truly great fighters who may have escaped my full attention. Thanks.

 

Although they wouldnt be in my top tier ATG, Mayweather, Pacquiao or Stribling may be others.

 

Although he rates highly at welterweight and middleweight, Mickey Walker is a good example.

 

Duran deserves a mention

 

Many would have Duran at no1 Lightweight.

 

I have Duran behind only Gans at lw (I would think most rate him highly), and at 9 p4p.

 

I miss Pachilles

 

Duran's one of the rare cases where you get the best of both worlds- a single weight legacy & exceptional weight jumping.

 

Yes, obviously he was an exceptional LW. I think Duran has a fair shout to be a great WW. On the night he beat Leonard, he could have beaten many.

 

Jeff Fenech blitzed thru many divisions before he crashed and burned.

Nah, he's a Top5 lw and therefore doesn't fit.

 

Burley springs to mind. Although some do rank him very highly at middleweight, sometimes he'll be missed off altogether, while he can also pop up very highly on P4P lists.

Ross and McLarnin are often difficult to rank in specific weight classes as their achievements were spread across multiple divisions.

I wouldn't personally have De La Hoya as a top 30 ATG, but he is an example of a great fighter that I'd struggle to rank top 10 in any weight class he competed in based on resumé.
