I know what Carnera's height was because I had a conversation with Reg Gutteridge about him whilst ringside one night.Reg's Uncle's seconded Carnera for all his UK fights,Primo was measured at an arena,I can't remember which one ,it might have been White City Stadium. Whatever, his height in socks was six feet five and three quarters of an inch.He was routinely advertised as 6'7" when he was being barnstormed around the continent and the hick towns of the US.

My faith is in the weights boxers weighed in for fights and Louis was routinely around 200/205lbs for 19 title defences, that alone tells me and anyone who is unbiased he was smaller than Foreman.

I met Reg too but Carnera never came up. I don't dispute one of primos measurements was 6'5 and three quarters. But there are other measurements out there for him. I don't think one measurement is more authentic because Reg says so. I simply believe one measurement caught on and was published more often than the others. We don't know. That there are other measurements kind of makes me wonder what was the real one.

Foreman was most likely a bit bigger than Louis. He was heavier but how they appeared together is a separate issue. They are not really a weight division apart and in the same era they could be more similar

Tale of the tape measurements are essentially worthless. There is no consistent standard to it, stuff is made up by promoters, which is why you have weird examples like Antonio Tarver having larger measurements than Lennox Lewis.

Heavyweight weigh ins are ball park, one of our posters in another thread pointed out Foreman wearing boots on the scale before the Norton fight. Just not much point to it. If you take the official listings as gospel, it depends on which fights you match them.

Not to get picky, but the difference between 217.5 lbs. and 181 lbs. is 36.5 lbs.

However, Louis was 20 when he fought Kracken, not 24. Kracken was his first professional fight.

While I certainly think Foreman was bigger, it is worth noting that different men mature at different ages. Foreman seems to have filled out earlier. I don't think 36 lbs. is a fair reading of the difference in size between Foreman and Louis. I think it is more like 15 lbs. in top shape, perhaps a bit more. 181 would make Louis lighter than Marciano's usual fighting weight, but he was clearly a lot bigger than Rocky.

Reg's Uncle's was present when Carnera was measured ,that will do for me.
No one suggested they were a weight division apart and no one mentioned a hypothetical Louis from a different era to that which he operated in.

    More dilution.

Right on the first wrong on the second then?
Louis at 24 , defending his title against Schmeling weighed 198.75lbs.
Foreman at 24 defending his title against Norton weighed 217.5lbs.
Louis at 27 defending his title against Conn weighed 199.5lbs.
    Foreman at 27 re-matching Frazier weighed 224lbs.

How about weights at weigh- ins should we discount them too?

    For which fight?
    Louis was 202.25lbs for Nova.
    201.75lbs for B Baer.
    203.75lbs for Musto
Louis was 207lbs for the 2nd Simon fight.

Was Foreman ,no matter his age, ever as low as 207lbs for a professional fight?
Did Foreman ever box at under 200lbs?

Thankyou. That's what I said. Louis was 207 for Simon aged 27 and ten months.

Foreman dosnt have to be 207lb at any point. we know he was heavier.

Foreman was heavier that's all. Both similar height in appearance.

    Measurements are worthless.

Inch and a half taller and 20lbs heavier .My point has been proved repeatedly, time to put this to bed.
I'm not interested in trying to change your mind, or Kentucky Cobra's who would say it was mid day if I mentioned it was pitch black and the Moon was out!
