Stop with the revisionist history. Lomachenko corrects you himself when he says that everything was agreed to for the fight at 126 in terms of weight. Arum was the hold up. He only offered Rigs like 400k for the fight at featherweight.
Only reason the fight is happening, is because Rigondeaux, is confident he could beat Lomachenko, and he wants to ruin Arums gravy train again. Lomachenko wasn't asked to come down this time. Rigs said he'll beat him at his own weight.
When you're right, you're right. I would guess, though, that Rigo figured he'd have to go all the way to 130 to make the fight happen and decided to eliminate it as a negotiation point.
The reason the fight is happening is because Rigo needs money to retire more comfortably. And if he loses, he can just say something like "it was a mistake to move up to 130". And, yes I'm aware that he can lose that WBA belt, in case Lomachenko wins, but he was not aware of it when signing for this fight.
Duran has deep ties to Cuban boxing and a strong relationship with Casamayor. He’s going to ride with his boys and omit any truth behind a real analytical breakdown of the fight.
I respect Duran but NO, a great big man beats a great small man period. VL is younger and Rigo is moving 2 divisions up for the money. This will be worse than Floyd vs JMM. At least JMM's body didn't look out of place. Rigo will be a gnat in there like he was against Donaire. Rigo will win some rounds but I can't see this going in his favor. The cards are stacked against him. I hope I'm proven wrong. Two of my favorite fighters.
90% of this board is moronic. Two of the best pure boxers of the last 10 years, and one is gonna dominate the other? I'm going for Rigo but it will be a close scrap.
The size isn't going to be a real issue. Nonito was 140 when he fought and I'm sure that Marraquin, Chucky, and Amagasa were all close to 135-140 on fight night.
Either way it's a guess at the moment, because unless you are in his camp, no one knows what kind of shape Rigo is in. If we see the Rigo that destroyed Nonito then I'd give it to him every day of the week. But it's been a few years since that fight, and Rigo hasn't been very active.
Im really looking forward to the night of this fight, i can see so many changes in our picks last minute in the Kirks Championship, it really is a pick em fight, do we go with the size and aggression of Loma? or do we go with sheer boxing brilliance of Rig? I know i will be changing my mind at least 27 times on fight night.
I was thinking about their respective last three years of competition, the period since Lomachenko became a titlist. (Flores may have had an undefeated record and a higher ranking than Marriaga, but he certainly isn't as good or as proven a fighter. That said, I don't give Lomachenko much for his win over Marriaga, either, mainly due to Marriaga being above his optimum performance weight.) Overall, Lomachenko's opposition has been notably better than Rigo's in the last three years, not necessarily through any fault on Rigo's part. I wouldn't dispute that his eye is a modicum keener than Lomachenko's. But it's hardly a Forrest-Mayorga degree of precision differential, to pull an example from the top of my head, and it was the generally less accurate fighter who won their bouts. I just feel a compound of circumstantial advantage should weigh heavily in Lomachenko's favour. I've never been too sold on Rigo (nor Lomachenko, for that matter), and I wasn't as impressed as others were by his victory over Donaire (a boxer-athlete whose P4P reputation owed a certain amount to well calibrated matchmaking and whom presented Rigo with a favourable style), but I will give him a huge kudos if he pulls this off. It will be deserved.
