Apparently, Liston son knocked out Bert Cooper in a street fight back in the 1990s. Hit him so hard they needed ammonia capsules to wake him up. Liston's son was a well known bouncer in Philadelphia back then too. Here he is at the Nevada boxing Hall of Fame accepting an award on his father's behalf.

He says he became a grandfather a few years back so that would mean Sonny Liston would be a great grandfather.

Which is totally outside the intent of the thread. The guy did his job and protected himself as well - rather impressively it seems. No-ones putting him #5 on the top ten list of all time heavyweights.

Very interesting thread, i have never come across this information. The son is/was a talented sportsman too it seems.

Maybe Bill is Listons son but I would like to hear what Burt Cooper has to say about their street encounter before accepting it.

This after all is a piece written Paul gallender.. the guy who interviewed Sonny via a séance.

I agree. Cooper has probably had some "down" times because of his substance abuse issues, but I can't remember him being knocked out cold in a boxing match. It's hard to believe that a "bouncer" could do what Foreman, Holyfield, and others didn't. I'm with choklab, I'd like to hear Bert Cooper's side of this story, IF there even is a story.

But the guy who wrote that article, Gallender, is a nut job right now. He's a crank.

I've read an outside account verifying it. I'll do my best to find it and post it here.

He's on YouTube promoting a book about Sonny. But he's in love with the guy. Every theory he has is a fact. His partner speaks to spirits and they both feel Sonnys presence...and together they take down an interview with the ghost of Sonny to reveal what really happened in Maine..etc etc.
