Moore was actually Marciano's last opponent.

But "He ended it beating up the #1 Heavyweight contender, Light Heavyweight Champion, future Hall of Famer, All time Great that was said to be the boogeyman he was ducking for over a year." doesn't have the same ring to it.

You could have just spruced it up with "old" and "fat" though.

That's it. All a fighter can do is the best that are around. That's what he should be measured by. Measuring ones standing how he hypothetically would have done against other fighters is pure speculation. Add to that how wrong all of us often are when predicting the outcome of today's fights makes it an even lesser tool to rank a fighter IMO.

Schmeling above Marciano (As well as Tyson and Foreman) stands out. No love for George?

Max beat a much MUCH better Louis than Rocky did.

Foreman was very good, but there was better.

Tyson, in terms of sheer skill, is better than all of them. But his resume (not his problem) is thin.

So I guess on my 10-11 tier. I guess 7-12 seems reasonable

Sorry my bad. He went out not beating a fat light heavyweight but a 40 something light heavyweight with over 100 fights on his clock and had to get off the canvas to do so.

Either or. Neither makes impressive reading.

Louis and Ali won more fights, held the crown longer, had 3 times as many successful titles defenses. In Ali`s case his opposition was much greater. Louis was about on par with Rocky`s opp but again he had the title 12 years and a record 25 defenses. Rocky did a lot and he retired smartly but I don't believe he has any valid argument as GOAT.
