Will Floyd Mayweather become more well appreciated as time goes on?

Oh, I'll give you the fact that Pac was on the slide. But he was still a damned good fighter and the number one challenger Floyd could face at that time. And Floyd, who was also sliding, turned back that challenge. So, the victory still warrants recognition, even if it would have warranted more back in 2010.

Pacman's style and the way he fought anyone who came up meant he was more worn out in 2015 than Floyd. Way more. Floyd never was in a great fight. Floyd avoided Manny, and he pulled a Sugar Ray Leonard vs. Hagler. I don't see the win as a legit win to be honest. He waited too long. Half a decade is too long.

Hm, IMO both of them did enough at sfw to be taken into consideration. Also, while Mayweather looked at his best there, his resume is thinner than at ww for example. So, while he certainly is one of the fighters competing of the top spot at sfw, I do not think it is clear that he is.

MMA may have surpassed boxing in the US but not in the world. In most European countries nobody cares less about it than about boxing. Also, beating someone from a different sport in your own has no meaning. It has less value than Patterson beating Rademacher.

I agree, all of them were still relevant fighters and add to Mayweather's resume. No argument about that. The question is how much do they add? I don't consider any of them still a great fighter when Floyd fought them, top contenders in their divisions though. IMO neither the Mosley nor the DLH FMJ faced add anymore to his resume than Baldomir of Judah, nobodies in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah, there seems to be a very thin area where Floyd's opponents aren't either green or past it.

    Fanboy alert !!!!

Floyd is not even close to TBE, and he's not the most talented of all time either.

I think McGrain already put together a top 100 p4p list that was pretty damn good and included many of the names I would have. He had Mayweather at 47. I wouldn't strongly disagree with that. I'd also say that calling someone one of the 50 greatest fighters in boxing history is hardly an insult. The original post was about whether Mayweather will be more appreciated as time goes by. I don't think he will but time will tell. The assertion though that he could either be TBE or all-time top 10 is where I'd firmly draw the line on the debate. After that we're really only haggling about position in the list, which is highly subjective. And me putting Floyd in and around top 50 is just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less.

It's reasonable to say that 39 year old Mosley wasn't quite the same fighter as he was when he stopped Margarito 15 months earlier.

It is not reasonable to say that someone who has been a pro for 8 years and has had 42 pro fights including 7 title fights is green.

How do explain that Pac had a better year leading into the fight than Floyd did? And how do you explain that he beat pfp fighter after the fight? Arum didn't want the fight back in 2010.

It's a list that was created after the Cotto fight.

Bear in mind, Matt subsequently raised FMJ to 25 following the Pac fight.

McGrain's Top 100 was pretty brilliant, though.

Yeah, Floyd ranks just behind guys like Tony Canzoneri and Jimmy Mclarnin. 25 to 30 range.

Exactly. An area so thin that basically 50 men - roughly half of whom won world titles - don't fit into it.

Isn't that weird? It's almost like they've been wrong for so long they can't admit it.

TOP 40-60 ATG for me. However, he had the benefit of clever matchmaking. Most ATGs did not.
