Very even, I would say. I give the slight edge to Whitaker based on him being in a position (or rather, him being a bit more willing once in position) to deliver his own blows after his defensive wizardry. Skill-wise, they are the two most accomplished boxers I've seen in my own lifetime, I would suggest (I'm 36).

Mayweather is extremely skilled but i have to lean toward Whitaker. He was ridiculous at times.

    Mayweather for me, but barely.
Every moment of every fight he was using some high level skill. Crazy combination of skill and consistency.

Most untouched fighter to fight at his level.
But Whitaker did some rediculous things in the ring. Mayweather always seemed to revere him.

Very even fight but possibly not much fun to watch, unless you like shadow boxing as entertainment. Punches landed stats would be interesting - I'm guessing around 10% success rate for both of them!

I actually think Mayweather was slightly more skilled. Prefer watching Whitaker fights though, while being a defensive wizard, he wasn't a safety first kind of boxer and willing to let his hands go.

Whitaker for me. The way he could dominate fighters like Nelson, Chavez and McGirt at every range swings it for me.

Whitaker for me. To me he had the most natural talent. Floyd relied more on his gameplan and strategy than Whitaker did.

Well, I think the difference comes from their approach to boxing. Whitaker was more natural talented, more creative in the ring and also more reliant on his physical athleticism. He would often come up with stuff that leaves you scratching your head.
Mayweather not so much, he was more conservative in his approach, more textbook. And in this textbook more precise and accurate. He relied not as much on his athleticism and reflexes (albeit still important) as Whitaker. This allowed Mayweather to stay relevant and on top for longer. However, I also think he is easier to figure out than Whitaker.

Agree with pretty much everything here. Though I'm not sure it answered the question I posed, but it was a damn good answer so it's all good.
