Dominic Breazeale vs Floyd Patterson

Chuvalo was 6'0" 208lbs for Floyd
Bonavena 5'10.5" 206lbs

Breazeale is 6'7" 255lbs

 

Yeah but that doesn't mean that he hit any harder than Chuvalo or Bonavena or was any more skilled.

 

Being able to take a punch has taken many a fighter far. Not being able to take a punch has also halted some careers that might have otherwise went far.

 

I wouldn't say Patterson couldn't take a punch. Ingo knocked Patterson down something like 7 times before the fight was stopped, Patterson got up 7 times btw.

Breazeale just simply doesn't have the skills to land on Patterson. He's too slow. Perhaps the slowest heavyweight of all time. Patterson being the fastest. I'll take a 190 lb speedster with a booming left hook over an oversized candy bar who is exhausted by the 4th round and should pretty much be 18-2, 17-3 had Mansour not retired in between rounds.

Another point is when Breazeale gets tired he is very susceptible to being knocked out. Way more than the average fighter. I could definitely see Patterson capitalizing on this and in fact that's how I see the fight going.

Patterson waits the hershey's bar out and ices him by the 7th round.

A couple things maybe. A friend, with something like 55 years in boxing, saw him in the gym regularly and told me that Breazale is the slowest fighter he has ever seen...and is the laziest in the gym as well.

 

Lol at everyone forgetting Patterson was one of the fastest, most agile heavyweights of all time.

His durability "issues" don't matter much if the other fighter is literally one of the slowest heavyweights of the past few years and wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of laying enough leather on him to stop him. A knockdown? Maybe, so what. Like Patterson never won a fight he was knocked down in.

There's a big difference between knocking a fighter down and having the ability and skill to string enough together to stop them. Even if Breazeale does land a hail mary, does anyone really thinks he has enough ability to finish on a fighter of Floyd Patterson's caliber? Get real.

 

No but it does mean that Bonavena and Chuvalo would not be" modern sized heavies"!

 

Chuvalo got as big or bigger than 215 pounds and Bonavena was over 200 pounds. If he was 208 and wouldn't be a modern heavy, neither would a 210 pound Ali

 

I'm referring to when they faced Patterson,which is the only time their heights/size is relevant .
Ali was 6'3"

Patterson's chin would never hold up. Taking a punch to the head has nothing to do with skill.

 

He could beat Patterson, by breaking his back after leaning on him.
