Sky Sports REALLY pushing Conor Benn

He does seem to have improved a bit but his level of competition is beyond dire so far. The last fellas only wins were against fighters who hadn't won a fight. He seems to have decided to fight his own style a bit more rather than just walking into guys throwing wide hooks. He looks fast and is finding his feet but he literally faced no one to judge how good he is. Someone like Egginton probably wouldn't be bothered by his power and would just walk him down. The Egg is hardly Mr Finnesse but he's proven up to a certain level and has a bit of dig.

Benn now needs to make his first baby steps up the ladder. Maybe around English title level, like a tyler goodjohn type or something. Benn has a really high ranking inside the top 20 but other than Josh Taylor the rest have had a lot more fights....

 

They Are just trying to hype him up for the casuals

I'm not overly impressed with Benn at all just yet.. I know he's learning on the job, but still.

 

It really all depends on how they move him and match him over the next year or two, which makes the timing of this push strange. Kell Brook was obviously asked to tweet that out, it's all very weird.

If he has 4 or 5 fights next year and fights for a Southern Area or English like Eddie said then fair enough.
But could you imagine what would happen to him if he was thrown in with a Skeete, Kelly or even Tetley now?

 

He gets hit far too easily- he's keeping busy but frankly he needs soon to fight someone of note.

As it stands he's nowhere near his dad in terms of boxing or indeed singing.

 

I'm not saying Conor is huge for 147, he is relatively small but he's a 147lber and is still growing, I think by the time he makes it to British level he will be a solid 147 and won't be out muscled by anyone.

I think area/english level next year, but he should be thinking British level in 2 years maybe 12 fights, 6 fights a year.

British level @ 23 fights will be ideal for him but he needs to start fighting experienced journeyman now, not novice journeyman like he has been.

 

Yeah it's typical hype, they need another big seller, Bellew only has a few more fights in him, Burns finished, Crolla not a seller, lost Warrington, lost De Gale, Brook looks to be at the end, Callum Smith potentially but they need another top seller behind Joshua, god forbid Joshua left to start his own thing, not too sure where it would leave Matchroo,m

 

Your point was 100% clear and I agree with you. He is starting to impress me but no way should he be fighting up at 147.

 

At the risk of repeating myself...I can't get over the negativity British fans are showing towards Benn on here...I'm shocked. For shame! Get behind him ffs!

 

Looks to be limited to European level if he maxes out what little talent he has. He has heart thats clear, but that only gets you so far.

 

But he could have been an amateur its no one else's fault he weren't is what I'm saying... No one can argue it was because he had a lack of opportunities

 

It is but its no one else's fault that he did not have any, he could have if he had chosen to, I assume he would have had every opportunity to do so, for me you can't join the pro game and keep quoting a lack of amateur experience

 

Eggington takes some serious punishment to the head just an easy target

 

Sky are so Sly man.They single out ones who are very marketable which they put ahead of Ability.I think Joshua Buatsi should be getting more press,Josh Kelly,Cordina.But they go for the guy with the pretty face to get the Casuals and Women on board.It's so sly how they operate but it does work.The Order of Sky's Fighters are like this:Joshua,Bellew,Brook.It is quite poor on paper,Bellew will Retire if he wins against Haye,Brook is damaged goods.They need someone as a backup to AJ.

Ah, I see what you're saying now. Even just a couple of years in the ams would have given him valuable experience, wonder if he'll regret going pro so early?
