I think the Tyson-era Ruddock has a good chance.

Dempsey never faced a puncher of Ruddock's ability or skill or size. Meanwhile, Ruddock faced a better version of Dempsey in Tyson and held his own for good stretches.

Simple math based on available results. Ruddock KO9.

Seems as plausible an explanation as any.

Dempsey faced plenty of punchers in his career, Ruddock is nothing new. Dempsey also crushed several fighters bigger than Ruddock and around the same size.

Tyson is not a better version of Dempsey. For one Tyson doesn't shift as much as Dempsey did nor as well as Dempsey did. Another point is Dempsey was actually one of the best if not THE best heavyweight inside fighter in history. Tyson was poor on the inside and baffled by the clinch.

How does Ruddock losing to Tyson twice (once by stoppage) equate to him knocking out Dempsey in 9 by "simple math"? I don't think 1+1=3.

Seems you missed his points entirely and reverted to non points as a rebuttal.

I'm curious though, which fighters that Dempsey faced are analogous to Razor?

Dempsey was physically and mentally tougher than Tyson...could take a hell of a punch flush without problems and comeback to dismantle opponent...and best infighter ever

Size difference is what, 50 lbs?

Ruddock would take his head off with his left hook/uppercut.

Dempsey would trade punches and get knocked out by a much bigger, stronger guy who has a proven chin and toughness

I agree with you that Dempsey was mentally tougher than Tyson. Physically Tyson was pretty tough. He took a hell of a shot. Ruddock landed some huge shot on Tyson albeit one at a time.

Willard was 65 lbs heavier and had a terrific uppercut/chin.

    Dismantled in 1.

How old was Willard at that time? Was he an active heavyweight in the years leading up to facing Dempsey?
