He also got hit with a lot of punches too. I felt like Benn was the harder puncher and that McClellan was the more skilled boxer. But once Benn turned it into a war, it should've been a clean brutal fight and the ref got in the way by allowing the rabbit punching.
He picked up a few losses earlier in his career, and he doesn't exactly have a great resume. He's romanticized to some degree, his power was real but that hardly tells the full story.
You have to go back and watch his 2 fights with jackson, not just the highlights the actual full fights. He took some massive hammers from that man. That could not have been great for his brain, i've also heard there was early brain trauma signs in the gym before the benn fight. Also not taking anything away from benn he was hard as nails and could punch a hole through someones head as well.
Well, he was a fighter with next to no defense, training and taking flush punches from the best of the best at Kronk for years, I'm assuming. That also can't be good for your brain. Supposedly sparring wars helped prematurely ruin other fighters, such as Terry Norris and Meldrik Taylor.
No way. Do you see the way he punched people. Came right at you with the pain. So I don't see how he's overrated. Seems like a bad thread.
Gman was a monster! Nobody wanted to fight him! He was beating Benn but Benn was cheater hitting him with multiple rabbit punches
Agreed. He had a fantastic chin and that imo resulted in him not to concerned what was coming back. Before the Benn fight his(McClellan) sparring partner has told how he was being wobbled by jabs
Not overrated...had gloves on since he was a toddler. Ref let Benn rabbit punch all night, every clinch Benn was hammering away. Was disgusted with the ref well before McClellan went down... Ref and Benn should be ashamed.
