Eh. Beterbiev is more powerful than Shabranskyy, and so he does have more of a puncher's chance, but it honestly wouldn't be surprising if he lasted the same amount of time (or less) and barely laid a glove on Kovalev while getting drilled into the canvas.

IIRC he had a broken nose against Beterbiev, I'm anything but a quitter, but Jesus its an amateur match, I'd probably pull out myself.

Kovalev beats him easily. He is tailor made for Kovalev.

Yes. From certain angles you can see Gvozdyk's nose is ever so slightly bent from when it got broke. The only reason it's even really noticeable is because it's literally the only physical imperfection he has lol

I only mean Gvozdyk like Shabranksy is an outside boxer. Of course there is way more to Gvozdyk. He has great legs, he's more patient, he uses angles well, mixes up the pace and his delivery, he can defend with his upper body. But he hasn't shown he's more than an outside boxer. When Kovalev's attacking and getting closer he'll either be backing up, or in a position where he'd be better to defend on the inside. Which is where Ward and other than him Beterbiev, Bivol, and Barrera have proven to be better than Gvozdyk. Overall I rate Gvozdyk highly like you and in fact second best at light heavy. He'd be a great tactical match with Kovalev... but I think his downfall and beatdown would be more inevitable than Beterbiev against Kovalev.

Gvozdyk has said Kovalev's a friend but business is business and he'd fight him.

Yes I know I've seen him talk about a potential fight between them numerous times. He said he'd rather go a different route (down the WBC one when Kovalev held all the other belts) but that if they had to fight each other they would. Gvozdyk was and probably still is ranked #1 by the WBO so they probably already offered him the chance to contest the vacant belt against Kovalev tonight.

Yeah considering they're close it doesn't need to be forced anytime soon.. but if they're the last two standing it's nice to know he's not completely against it.

Yeah I'm sure it will happen down the road if they keep on winning. There are plenty of quality match ups out there that can be made for either of them first though. Adonis, Bivol, Beterbiev, Jack, Barrera, Alvarez etc.

I agree they should take on other guys for now, not just because they're friends but because Gvozdyk should beat everyone out there outside of Kovalev.

Gvozdyk-Beterbiev is the matchup I'd love most to see. Hope TR can put it on early next year. I agree with CST that Kovalev deserves a proven top guy next, and Barrera also deserves Kovalev rather than being setup as a stepping stone for Bivol, so Kovalev-Barrera should happen. Bivol has plenty of time left.

This is most certainly how the fight will go. At least for the first half. Kovalevs jab will cause Beterbiev a lot of problems but I think Beterbiev surprises people.
