    Is Foreman the rare example of a past ATG great heavyweight who would not need to add extra weight to compete today?

    Many feel that in order to compete at heavyweight today, past greats would need to be of certain size and weight.

    What about George Foreman? Foreman stands 6'3 " tall with a 78 1/2" reach.
    While Foreman had the frame and body structure to add extra weight, I think it would be to his detriment as it would drain speed and limit his long-term stamina. Two drawbacks in his prime.

    Foreman's best performances were over Frazier and Norton. In these matches, he was between 217 1/2 to 224 lbs. If Foreman was 235+, it's not going to help him, but something that the modern 12 round format.

    Hes strong enough to compete with the super heavies of today but he wouldn't have the same effect as he would on the smaller fighters he fought in his era..

    I think around 215-220 lb is the minimum to compete with a skilled 240+lb fighter. If you're talking about ATG type small fighters I guess you could shave a few lbs more off that. But a 240lb ATG against a 205lb ATG, I don't care who you are, those extra lbs are going to tell.

    The minimum cutoff for a modern career heavy runs about 215. So yeah, Foreman could do it without adding weight. Chances are he'd campaign with a few extra pounds because of the championship distance shrinking from 15 to 12.

    No. Foreman , Frazier , Norton , Lyle , Shavers , Ali , Holmes , Liston would all be champions and top 5 ranked HWs in any era , especially the K2 era.

    Anyone think a 212lbs Ali wouldn't have a significant impact on todays heavy scene?

    I did not say that. Ali is another example. He looked lethargic in the 220 and above pound range.

    However, Ali would be able to clinch as well as he did if he was around today, and might have to refine things a bit defensively as he would seldom enjoy a reach advantage like he did in the 60's or 70's.

    I tend to agree with this.

    6' feet 205 vs 6'6" 240 when both men have skills is similar to asking a jr. middle to beat a light heavyweight.

    Skills, you mean jab and grab for 12, afraid to get engaged even with a known Heavyweight fraught David Haye who a smaller guy like Tyson would anihilate in a couple of rounds or your other hero who got tko'ed in 9 by a small cream puff puncher..........

    Fact is that you are simply a spit bucket carrier for the two brothers who stank the joint out for more than a decade and were responsible to turn the "baddest man on the planet" Heavyweight champ into a side show with almost zero name recognition .

    Dude get lost. The Klitschko's did not duck anyone. The reverse is mostly true. They fought mostly top ten opponents and much to you dismay dominated them for a decade.

    Today Wilder is the worst belt miler of all time, Charr ( beaten by Vitali in his last fight ) a champion and I'm still waiting for Joshua to fight someone in the top ten who's not over 35 years old...

    There was nobody to duck , yet Wlad still managed to lose and AVOID the rematch against Corrie Sanders... And Vitali lost and AVOIDED the rematch against 200 pound Chris Byrd who took the fight on short notice.

    This thread is nothing but an implication that former greats would be too small to compete against your beloved Klitschko brothers . Its patently obvious ponchy.

    Like I said before Dino, Vitali was coming off shoulder injury and Wlad beat Byrd before Vitali retuned to the ring.

    Fact.

    In case you aren't aware, no top fighter is going to negotiate until he's healed from a surgery and ready to go and two sides need to agree. By the time the Wlad vs Byrd contract was signed Vitali was still months away from his return to the ring.

    When Don King signed Byrd, he would not let him near Vitali. Everyone knows Byrd was lucky to win.

    Vitali didn't want to rematch him , thats why he allowed younger bro step in for him.

    Don King didn't sign Byrd till 4 years later when Vitali was retired , yet you still pathetically make that excuse hoping nobody will notice.

    He ducked Byrd and fought Hoffman instead. ONE month after Wlad beat Byrd for him.. Knowing this fact tears you apart. :69:
