Since Tunney was the heavyweight champion at one point ,it's rather difficult not to rate him as a heavyweight.

I place huge emphasis on H2H and in my opinion Liston matches up very well against the majority of other champions. You're entitled to your opinion as are the rest of us,but we aren't judging yours with negative comments..

So you penalize Liston because Floyd couldn't make it out of the first round in two attempts?
In another post you say you rank boxers on what they did ,yet how many of Liston's fights have you actually watched?

Penalise? What? About as much as I penalise Tyson for saying that Spinks was his best performance.

I've watched his fights against Williams, Floyd, Ali, Harris, Machen (parts) and one or two others (Westphal, I think, and maybe another). Pretty much those that are available on Youtube. Of his major wins, I haven't seen the one over Folley since I haven't been able to find it.

Which performance or performances would you hold over the ones against Patterson?

So were quite a few light heavyweights, doesn't make them less known as a light heavyweight. Gene Tunney is one of the best light heavyweights ever. One of the best heavyweights, he is not

I agree on both counts, but he is still rated as a heavyweight, just not one of the best.

I think there's a fair shout to call Tunney a top 20 or even top 15 heavy due to the Dempsey win. Certainly has no place in a top 10.

But this is a top 10 heavyweight thread. Therefore about the best heavyweights. Mentioning him here is a nonsense.
I disagree anyway, I'll certainly never be rating Tony Bellew as a heavyweight

Fair enough. Then let's just say I don't at all agree with having Liston in the top 5.

BULL****. He is easily one of the greatest heavyweights.LD Boxer Punchers ideas are moronic. Yes Tunney is a great Heavyweight. Yes Dempsey could be the greatest ever and head to head. And yes, Sonny Liston could cut a swath through heavyweight history including your frontrunner Tyson and chinny Lewis and Chinny Wlad. One punch and those two could fall. As for Patterson, you must either be his brother or just a historical REVISIONIST moron to back your dumbass beliefs. You are wrong dumbass. Yet you continue on and on and on. You are under 15 years old aren' t ya boy? When you grow up you' see the light.......Dumbass.

Mike Spinks did pretty much what Tunney did, a dominant lightheavy who twice beat a great heavy who was on his way out.

Where is the love for Mike Spinks as an ATG Heavy? What, not enough Bert Sugar fairy tales about him?
