Everyone remembers his successes but Steward got a lot of things badly wrong. I remember Emmanuel steward telling us all that Andy was his next Thomas hearns.....he also told us Nasseem hamed would beat Barrera too....vastly overrated as a trainer IMO. After 10 years with the "worlds greatest trainer", in the "great" kronk gym, Andy Hadn't advanced from the day he started. As for spike v Andy ....There's a simply way to see how they match up...let them box each other!
Andy Lee is a former Olympian, who went on to win a world title by beating Matvey Korobov, has a disputed draw with another world champion in Peter Qullin. Hes beaten world ranked fighters. He lost his title in a razor close title fight to Saunders. Spike O Sullivan, had no real amateur accolades to speak of and has only beaten a handful of fighters with winning records. Let alone world ranked fighters. They're not even comparable. Feel free to compare the records of the guys Andy has fought, to the guys Spike has fought. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/344849 http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/434752
Don’t rate Spike whatsoever but Andy Lee was quality and imo earned a draw with Saunders though I can see why Saunders got the nod on the account of the knockdowns early on,that type of thing regardless of how well the opponent fights back second half will tend to swing it. Does anyone know what’s going on with Lee,has he retired or does he intend to be relevant again cause I’m sure we can say that Lee would of been the first to challenge Gennady had he won Saunders?
Ive seen a few interviews where he said, hes willing to fight on, but at this stage of his career, the fights have to make financial sense.
Ah right,I mean I understand how difficult it must be to try and rebuild after a loss a bit like Groves had to do but with Andy Lee I don’t see it like that after what was a very close loss to Saunders I reckon the boxing world and fans still have loads of respect for Andy Lee. He should get in with Charlo if possible to see if he’s still got it and to see if Charles as good as they say,I’d love that fight personally
He doesn't, but whats the point? Its not for good money, it doesn't get him anywhere, and hes at a point in his career where he probably couldn't be arsed being away from his family for months to train for a low money fight that leaves him in the same position as before. I'm sure he doesn't fear fighting me either, but I don't think I'm getting a fight with him.
