Prime GGG beats Froch quite easily, as he has an equal granite chin, a better jab and equal power.
    Plus
    * GGG is far more accurate
    * Prime GGG liked to throw to the body, check out Froch's expressions when he faced another decent body-puncher in Reid.
    * Froch gets hit more than GGG

The height and natural power goes to Froch, but lets get one thing right, GGG steam-rolls through 160lb Taylor and AA.

I'd go with this, and also that he's an underestimated wind-up merchant.

Taylor was already on the run and breaking down when Froch drove that very deliberate right hand through his guard to start the beginning of the end. Granted, Froch's pacing was off and he cut it a bit too fine, but it was an away defense against an experienced, athletic campaigner early in his championship run, and he got the job done.

Dirrell was contrary, but he wasn't robbed. That was a close fight, with not much between them in most rounds (Froch's jab proving useful for him in swaying sessions his way).

    Ward is great.

Froch considered Groves a step down and showed him too little respect. He corrected that in the return, boxed him with the attentiveness he should've demonstrated in the first fight.

All those guys bring degrees of speed (Taylor, Dirrell) and range (Dirrell, Groves) that Golovkin doesn't bring to the table, besides. We can talk about Froch having issues with those guys, but Golovkin struggled with a pedestrian Danny Jacobs, whom Froch would beat the tar out of (not that triangles are everything, but still).

Carl isn't Superman, but he's very good (much better than any of the pretenders at 168 now), very tough, can box to plans and has a certain degree of physicality over Golovkin.

He beat the #1 guy in the division, Booty, with a brutal KO

I was live at the fight. The atmosphere was electric.

    Bute was always over rated.

You're a lucky man. I had initially planned on attending myself, and ended up settling for watching it at home. I thought Froch would win, but I didn't expect the fight to be so one-sided and the atmosphere to be quite as memorable as it perceptibly was. Regretted that one for a while.

Bute was overrated, it's true. But it would've taken a very legitimate guy to expose it so ruthlessly. Both Jack and DeGale labored with a much less fresh version of the Quebecer. Incidentally, many of those who were sold on Bute in his pomp have since attached themselves to Golovkin, and both Bute and Golovkin were tabbed to beat Ward by many of their disciples, claims which seem laughable now.

Ward was always going to be an ATG. I knew that when the Super 6 was finished. He dismantled everyone.

Yes he has an ugly style and gets a lot of stick on here because he beat KKKovalev but his ring IQ was levels above his peers.

Ward would have embarrased Golovkin. Just too smart.

I always believed that Froch would beat Golovkin, and I've seen nothing from GGG since Froch retired that changed my mind.

So I like The Cobra in this hypothetical.

Froch by UD or late TKO

I said it years ago, still say it, and anyone who thinks this is an easy match for GGG or that Froch was tailor made for him, watch more Froch, because you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Taylor was winning but not by much. Fact is that Froch DID land that punch.
Dirrel was close, probably got robbed, but his style is nothing like GGG's so that fight is irrelevant.
Ward did school Froch, but again, not GGG's style.
Grove fought Froch at the end of his career.

We don't know how GGG would do at 168 as he never fought there. Froch took big punches from much
bigger guys than GGG, the question is how could GGG take the punches of a much bigger guy?

This would have been a great fight, lots of action, fan friendly. I see Froch by UD.

I really think golovkin has a granite chin and will keep coming unless you can really hurt or knock him out and I don't think froch would have been able to stop him coming forward like him or not he gets the win

From what we've seen so far, I'd have to have favoured Carl.

Both have great chins, both have plenty of power, both are easy enough to hit, but Carl is naturally bigger with a longer reach, and he's proven at a weight that GG has never even fought at.

Carl wasn't elite, but he was a very tough SMW.

GG hasn't even fought at SMW, and he scraped by Jacobs.

    This is a great post.

In my honest opinion, the sensible option would be to pick the bigger guy who's more proven at the weight.

We've never even seen GG at SMW.

I can't understand some of these posts.

He struggled with Jacobs at MW, yet people are confident he'd have destroyed a guy at a weight he's never fought at? Why?

His most impressive win was obviously Bute.

I agree that Andre Dirrell beat him.

Groves is a good fighter. I was outraged by the stoppage. But looking back, I think he was on the verge of stopping him. Groves was so stupid. He blew that fight due to his ego.

GG is also overhyped by many. His best wins are over Canelo and Jacobs. (yes, I giving him the victory over Canelo)
