Whatever you feel was the most excellent versions of Spinks & Machen. Remember, fellow ATG LHW Harold Johnson out pointed Machen weighing 181 pounds, at HW, Spinks would be 200+ pounds with a similar skill set.

Lest anyone think that Spinks losing to a prime Tyson on what was perhaps his best night, Id wager that Machen & Johnson would've lost just as convincingly to Tyson that night. So I don't think that applies to this matchup.

Machen was right at the cusp regarding "big fights", but usually lost. Spinks, except for Tyson fight, always won.
    Going with Spinks by decision.

This seems likely, though I think it'd be competitive if Machen showed up ready

Who clocked Eddie? Ingo? Anyone want to argue that the 'jinx' was harder than the 'bingo'??
Of course if you'd like to match a 1960 prime Spinks against a 1985 prime Eddie then let's do it! Eddie, easy UD.

Spinks at heavy may have indeed hit as hard or harder than Ingo. Remember, the heavies that Ingo fought by and large would be considered cruiser's today. I think if a 200+ pound Spinks was landing shots on cruiser sized fighters, he'd look as destructive as Ingo did against Machen. Even though Cooney wasn't the most top notch opponent, he was still a 240 pound giant that Spinks wiped out.

Spinks' knees were shot for the Tyson bout which rendered his much needed mobility useless. I think Machen had just the right style to give Tyson fits!

Hi Jake! If you think a HW Spinks hit harder than Ingo then that's your opinion. I think, despite Ingo's shortcomings, that his straight right, right down the pipe, would have, virtually, any ATG heavy in big trouble unlike a bulked up Michael.

Spinks was rather active and scrappy. Machen a bit more of a defensive counter puncher type, so I like Spinks on styles in a good match up that goes the distance.

Spinks work as a light heavy is under rated and he probably would be 185 on fight night, close enough to Machen's ideal weight.

Yeah, if Machen was in the ring with a 1988 Mike Tyson, he'd have been stopped early

I think a HW Spinks could have knocked cold virtually any cruiser or cruiser sized heavy. If you put the 208 pound Spinks who vanquished Cooney against the 182 pound Patterson that was stopped by Ingo, I think Spinks could have replicated what Ingo did.

Also, I'm not saying Spinks has to stop Machen

Harold Johnson @ 181 pounds out boxed a 194 pound Machen and won a decision against him. Only 6 pounds above the LHW limit. Johnson, like Spinks was an ATG LHW. Except @ HW, Spinks would be 200+ pounds vs a smaller Machen. I think Spinks would've outboxed him and had enough punching power to keep him honest. Though, I'd expect a competitive match up.
