Michael Dokes, Gerry Coetzee, Gerry Cooney, Carl williams, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tubbs, Tim Witherspoon, Mike Weaver, Tucker, Berbick I might have forgotten a few. Douglas is excluded because his peak was just one fight.
Tucker Ruddock Foreman Witherspoon Coonie Bruno Spinks Williams Page Berbick Somewhere in that general area some were just around in this era even not at their peak yet so? Holyfield could probably be added here too.
You think thomas at his peak was the worst of the bunch? I would have both tubbs and thomas up there with witherspoon and tucker at their best
Yes but this thread is about the early to mid 80s group of HWs and how you would rank them in terms of ability. Ruddock was physically as gifted as just about anyone but had terrible boxing IQ
Ruddock defeats anyone I have under him. Only results matter , his sole loss too Jaco is minut to all the other guys with multiple loses .Literally everyone but Ruddock, Foreman, Holyfield, Spinks and Tucker were inconsistent fighters. Unless you also include obvious Tyson and Holmes I would literally have to revamp the list excluding anything past 1985.
Tough list. I don't rate Thomas as highly as most folks around here because I think he would struggle against the fast-handed movers on this list, at their respective bests.
Tr Maybe maybe not, thomas made some errors that a fast fighter could exploit but he had the strength to back up mike weaver anytime he decided to plant his feet, and if he found himself outsped he should have the power and chin to turn up the pressure against a mover. Thomas did beat Quick tillis but i havent seen the fight. Tillis was very erratic and inconsistent, but at his best he was a pretty good boxer with a good left hand. depending on what version of tillis that was we might have our answer
I gather this is a rank on pure peak ability, not accomplishments or even head to head Greg Page Tony Tubbs Tim Witherspoon Tony Tucker Carl Williams Michael Dokes Pinklon Thomas Gerry Cooney Frank Bruno Mike Weaver Gerrie Coetzee Trevor Berbick James "Bonecrusher Smith"
