When you're as talented as Floyd you don't have to have hard fights, but Floyd has been in very hard fights and came through like a champ.. Lol OP still salty Floyd beat Pac!!

Fair enough. Going right to the PAC right hook that was ultra successful...Floyd also found success with the left hook early from an orthodox stance and throughout the 10 sets against Hatton. Sr knew he had to watch for Manny's right hook based on how Floyd had so much success with the left hook.

Obviously, Ricky didn't allow enough time in working with Floyd Sr to really have an effect. Straight out of the gate in the inital 30 seconds he ate a big right hook from Manny.

I remember Ricky stating that. And in retrospect he may honestly feel that way after having time to reflect. But his confidence going in was at an all time high.

"Bet your house on me beating Manny Pacquiao," roared Hatton, in a move that has given the bookies the jitters.

Hatton bids to end the reign of the world's best pound-forpound fighter next Saturday at the MGM in Las Vegas.

Hatton said: "It's not going to be an old-fashioned boxing match and that suits me.

"I've never felt more certain of victory than I do right now. "I'm in the greatest shape of my life and I will not let anybody down.

"If people want to remortgage and put a few quid on me then they should. "Pacquiao has never been in the ring with a 100-milean-hour idiot like me.

"He's never had to face a man with my strength and determination and he will come up short."

Hatton added: "Pacquiao has done it the hard way and I respect everything that he has achieved in the ring. "I know his strengths and his weaknesses but I also know what I am capable of in this fight.

"It'll be my best night - I'm not overconfident or underestimating him. I just know I'm ready right now. It's been intense and hard in the gym, but now everything has fallen perfectly into place."

From my memory the only time Ricky had any trouble with Juan was the 8th after he got hammered to the balls and the ref didn't give him any time to recover. And it was a really hard shot.....That low blow really took the wind from Hatton and it gave Juan a chance to take that round. Which was the only round he won in my opinion.

I completely believe Hatton when he recounts who he believes he was in better form for....but I wholeheartedly believe he was in very high spirits and supremely confident going into his fight with Manny....maybe a little over confident? If so, that was a big mistake.

I think it's a pretty big testament that he made it through his entire career outclassing people to the point he never truly had to get tested.

I just think he was so long in the tooth that it would've been hard for him to execute Floyd's teachings at that level if he'd worked on it from age 30 to 33.

I do recall his hubris and outward optimism going into the fight. And there were rumors (though I can't swear to their veracity) of some unfortunate folk actually taking Ricky at his word and betting the farm on him. :confundio1:

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but DLH greatly benefited from Floyd Sr's tutelage more than a decade into his career. It definitely took time for Oscar apply the skills Sr ingrained without having to think, but Ricky only had one training camp. That's crazy if people actually bet the farm/house on Ricky. For any fight that's a crazy risk. But that would explain the deep depression he went through.

I think it helps that De La Hoya was a purer boxer than Ricky to begin with, Sr. had more suitable clay to mold there. Also think Oscar had more ring life left in the tank, given that he was just hitting his physical prime at 27 when Big Floyd moved in ahead of the Gatti TV bout.

Yeah, if those rumors were true, that would certainly exacerbate any feelings of failure Hatton was coping with post-Pac.

Very true. DLH was already a great boxer prior to Floyd Sr coming on board.
