What is everyone's prediction on Negrete/Vargas? Vargas by decision or stoppage?

Going to juggle this and the UFC PPV. Only tuning in for the main event though, no way I'm going to miss Cotto's swansong.

I'm not sure giving Cotto a swift boot in the culo as he's walking out the door really gives Ali too much of a momentum boost in his career tbh. It makes for a nice prize to have the name on his record but realistically it doesn't open too many doors for him this instant. For instance, Lara or Charlo vs. Ali doesn't all of a sudden become this big lucrative PPV. His best option if he wins is going to be to return to welterweight - the risk at 154lb is higher and there isn't much reward (in terms of transferable star-power, esp. with Cotto gone) to be mined. And beating an old Cotto with a foot out the door at light middle isn't going to much increase his stock (or h2h ability) down at 147.

Beating Cotto would raise his stock a lot. You're underrating current Cotto and you're about to see why.

Eh, you might be underestimating the impact of Cotto already tipping his cards to announce this as his last fight ahead of time will have on perceptions of the outcome (built-in excuse to diminish how creditable victory can be for Ali - "Well, it wasn't like Cotto had any reason to be hungry anymore; he was just there for his fans to give them one more entertaining fight and had no reason to care about the result itself"), or how widespread the murmurs were during and immediately after the Kamegai fight that, while it was a dominant victory for Cotto, enough had been lost (even if just half a step) in the couple of years since the Canelo fight that he was probably no longer capable of beating the elites. His last big match was two years ago, last big W 2½ years and last massive W 3½ years ago. Cotto's name still holds a lot of value but I'm not sure beating him in 2017 (in his prematurely-announced swansong, no less) suddenly launches Ali into crossover stardom.
