That Holmes didn't lose in his prime carries weight for me. As does his number of wins over ranked opp. He became lazy after Cooney, though. His only worthwhile uncontroversial wins during the rest of his reign was probably Bey and Smith.

I'm also impressed by what he did in his 40's.

 

I think Holmes. Fought more guys his size and still won. Lewis was bigger and got advantages that way, but he was no Holmes. and Lewis at the same size as guys gets knocked out a lot. His chin failed him.

 

Your ranking is more less just as I would have it.

I do like Wlad more and more, though, and he might take the spot behind Holmes. Ironically it's his loss against Joshua that made a convincing case to me that he did actually outgrow the bouts of panic he suffered against Purrity, Brewster and Peter in his physical prime. If we accept that, he was a truly great champion for at least 7-8 years, which goes a way in this ranking.
