Those fights are a dime a dozen, The Ward vs Gatti fight is looked upon as one of the greatest fights in history. Huge difference.

    Definition of a legend.
"An extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field."
I think in Cotto's case, with the infamous wrapping in the first Margo fight he'll be known for generations to come. As for the Ward vs Gatti fight, if it does stand the test of time and is known within boxing circles even then(100 years from now), both guys would be legends of the sport.

Punch for punch, Matthysse-Provodnikov was just as violent and brutal and awesome. A legendary fight does not a legend make.

If you did on a poll on here right now, I've no doubt in my mind Gatti vs Ward would win best fight in HISTORY... If this is still the case 100 years from now, they are legends of the sport of boxing. Its just how I see it.

Easy, there. I think Hagler-Hearns would take that honor. But yes, Gatti-Ward was a LEGENDARY FIGHT. Doesn't mean Gatti and Ward are legends in the game. I respect your opinion, bro. Just disagree.

To me a legend is someone who does good things for boxing win or lose.. Never backs down, never ducks.. Fights the ebst no matter under what circumstances.. Creates controversy.. At the end of the day is a clean fighter and even while taking a beating makes an exciting fight.. That being said.. Cotto fits the bill.. He wasnt perfect but he gave us some great fights and fought the best.. And nobody is perfect cause I know some people are going to talk about him being a Diva catchweights.. Martinez's knees etc etc.. All that aside.. Great person and great fighter.. Never got caught with any PED's, had some awesome wars against some of the best.. Nothing but respect from me..Will be missed

Boxing is a sport of legend, it's littered with them. Legendary nights, legendary fights, legendary fighters, legendary venues (many of which were toilets), legendary incidents, legendary cutmen, even legendary hangers-on and spit bucket-carriers. You don't even have to be good to be a legend, you just have to be a good story.

ATGness is much more rarefied ground. That's generally the 100-150 greatest out of all the millions of men who ever laced them up.

Naseem Hamed, for example, is certainly a legend of the sport, but it's hard to argue his case for ATGness.

No that heightens their legend. The fact is people know who Pacquiao and Mayweather, regular people. Just like they know who Ray Leonard and George Foreman are.

No. Your limited education obviously resulted in the use of a made-up word, Casual.
