Willie this is an interesting post and I agree with it. It's sad, but it's very difficult to get American fans to care about non American fighters or non Mexican or non Puerto Rican fighters. Especially those in the lower weight classes.

Look at the dues Pacquiao had to pay before getting Americans to know who he was. He won the Flyweight championship. Then won the Bantamweight Championship. Then won the Featherweight Championship. Fought 3 ATGs in a span of about a year. He was am extremely fan friendly fighter who was offensive and scored a lot of KOs and was involved in fight of the year caliber fights. I saw this because it took all of this for Pacquiao to headline his first PPV. And you could argue Morales was perhaps even the bigger draw for Manny Pacquiaos first PPV. Those are the dues he had to pay.

Lomachenko has had 10 fights none of whom were against big names. Even though guys like Russel Jr and Walters are good fighters. Rigos only notable fight was against a blown up Flyweight. They haven't paid their dues so to speak. They're not Mexican, American, Rican or a HW. It takes work to build up a name when you're a Featherweight from the damn Ukraine or Cuba.

Of course both of these guys have tremendous pedigree. 2 time Olympic Champions each. But nobody cares about Amateur boxing. Were the fights even broadcast on American TV during the olympics?

So am I surprised that this fight is going completely unnoticed? No, but it's a damn shame.

Lol you trippin bwai. Ain't no casuals know Loma or Rigo. This has gotten exactly as much coverage as you'd expect. Were you expecting an hour-long special feature on SportsCenter?

I'm not even disagreeing that this fight is ace enough to constitute a PPV. But I hate the whole PPV model, and am glad this isn't on PPV.

Willie had a good point about ESPN today. It's ridiculous how political they have become. It's a sports Network. There is a venue for politics. It's important stuff, but we can read books, read articles, watch the news, etc. For politics. Sometimes you just want to come home after work or the weekend. Grab a beer and watch some sports. Is that too much to ask for? ESPN is unbearable with the politicization of the network.

Well isn't the question of PPV really, will people buy it? I mean you can put 2 bums or a great fighter and stack him up against a low level contender or even a UFC fighter If it sells it sells.

A fight doesn't have to ace to constitute a PPV. It just needs to make financial sense. But yes if you're going to pay for boxing you might as well pay for a good match up.

I wouldn't like to pay PPV either , i just think the fight is worthy of a higher platform than ESPN.

I think he's pointing out how ridiculous ironic it is that people will buy dumb fights like Mayweather McCreggor and then ignore quality match ups. But this is mostly on the media. Casual Fans only know what they are told.

E European fighters get dissed something shameful. Even PFP contenders like Loma.
Poor english skills make them seem more like machines/less fan friendly. Remember when Kov could barely put two sentences together?

IMO it hurt both GGG, Kov etc

That's our fault ultimately. Hardcore MMA guys always push their guys to the top. This is some bull****. Tevin Farmer is having a title fight on the Salido card and there is zero mention of it even though it's the ONLY title fight on the card.
    I guess belts mean nothing.

Yes it hurt them badly. But Kovalev and GGG brought the goods from an entertainment point of view. Kovalev was so unmarketable that he had to fight half of his career for free. He wasn't making money at all, he literally did not receive a purse.

You have a big, ugly, scary Russian LHW who has already killed an opponent in ring. Doesn't speak much English, but when he does talks about how he enjoys hurting people.

How does anybody promote a guy like that in America? The only way you can is just put him on Cable TV and have him destroy people and get Americans to enjoy watching him blow **** up.

True. Maybe fighters over at PBC will accept $300,000 fights once the money dries up. Al is not getting any return on his investment and his top tier is spoiled.
Its going back to whoever can put butts in seats the most wins the prize. I don't think either guy is getting over half a mil for this fight and that bum Russell Jr. got 900k his last fight for what?
