If you have not heard, Pascal last night pulled a "Miguel Cotto" and officially announced his retirement ahead of his upcoming clash with Ahmed Elbiali on Friday night. I hope this doesn't lessen the fire he brings with him into the ring, as IMO he stands a very good chance of upsetting the hard-punching young Egyptian and snatching one more zero on the way out the door, if he is at least 75% of his best self (which I reckon he still was versus Eléider Álvarez in June).

He's saying all the right things, for sure. Regardless of the outcome, I hope we get one more classic and he's able to walk away with his head held high. He deserves no less at this stage of his career.

Smart to bow out before it gets ugly, on his own terms. I still wish he could have landed Stevenson in the ring and knocked his block off (into the 18th row) with a leaping hook.

Think he can bust Elbiali's cherry before riding off into the sunset?

I'm hoping for the upset, always had a soft spot for Jean and have long suspected that Elbiali would get exposed when he steps up.

Elbiali is fun to watch, sometimes.... but very limited and his power is overrated, Jean should be able o outpoint Ahmed here, possibly stop him late, and if he doesn't and gets blasted out, that's going to be one sad ass note to end a career on. But how fascinating of a twist would that be, 2 Arab Americans retiring 2 greats of this era in the same week.

I picked Pascal when the fight was announced, I'm sticking to my pick.

If Pascal can still pull the trigger he'll pull the upset. Elbiali has shaky whiskers, look for a Pascal-Dawson type performance

    I dont buy that.

You guys dont know Jean like we do.
He was always an attention seeker. He most probably saw that this fight is getting zero interest so he decided to spy things up.

If he wins no way he retires.

If he loses he'll get praised for his carrer, everyone will thank him for the good memories, etc, all this because he made this announcement.

If he didnt say he was gonna retire and lost in a fight that nobody cared about, it would've been sad, because thats like going out the back door.

At least now more people will care to watch his fight, and that was the plan folks.

That's...a very cynical view, but like you say you probably know him better than us non-Canucks. :nusenuse:

I hope you dont get me wrong, I like Pascal, he's a warrior he deserves all the praise in the world even if he doesnt retire, just I'm skeptical that he retires after friday's fight. I think its a PR move, and Jean is a master at those lol, also it puts some extra pressure on the young and inexperiencend Egyptian
Honestly I think its better he'd retire in a hometown fight anyway, uncle Al could give him at least that.
But he has to beat this Elbiali guy first

this shouldn't be his last fight. a fight outside of Quebec? even if he losses the fight he could still rematch Bute and it would draw in Canada. I know most of the outside world wouldn't care about it but it would sell in quebec even at their washed up stages of their career. If this is it he had a pretty interesting career.

From his fights with Diaconu. Winning the Ring Belt at 175, seling out the bell centre vs Bute and who can forget that he was banging a big dicked tranny for a while.

So am I, I personally thought that Pascal beat Gonzalez and was confused with the HBO score cards as I had it the same as the three judges.

Pascal has lost to Kovalev twice and his awkwardness actually was effective at points in fight one. and I think Kovalevs win vs Pascal is one of the best wins by anyone in the top 5 at 175.
Pascal lost to Hopkins when Hopkins could still go.
Lost to froch in a great effort. Lost to Alvarez and had his moments.

Pascal is great at making rounds boring almost dead then he goes full out nuts late in the round and lands punches. (he even won 2 rounds on all 3 judges vs Kovalev using this in fight 1)

Unless this kid has good defence I think Pascal has this but I could be wrong haven't seen odds on it yet.

This could turn into a disaster on friday night. Everything is stack to make sure Pascal’s opponent make a name on him.

First, his promoter Tom Brown, who is working for Haymon and probably doesn’t give the proper respect to Pascal. He basically said to him that there was not hotel rooms available for him and his team on monday (probably a huge lie). Because of that, his promoter booked him a flight on wednesday morning at 6 am, which means he had to woke up at 2 am this morning. The flight got delayed and he took the 11am flight. At 3pm, he was at Philadelphia waiting for his flight for Miami. From what he said at 3pm, because of that, he doesn’t even know himself if he will be able to make the weight limit. Plus, from what I understood, taking a flight during the dehydratation part is not the best idea because of water retention. These conditions make no sense. Not for a world class fighter like Pascal. And all this for 25k...

With the money he made during his career, he should have book his flight and hotel by himself in my opinion. He fell into the trap made by that unprofessionnal promoter Tom Brown, which is a Haymon puppet. With all this happening, Pascal should have told Brown and Haymon to **** off TBH.
