    Finally!

According to World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, his organization is investigating the ongoing situation with WBC light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and his lack of mandatory defenses.

At the moment, Eleider Alvarez has been the mandatory challenger, for two years, to Stevenson's title.

Stevenson (29-1, 24 KOs) and Alvarez (23-0, 11 KOs) are both advised by Al Haymon and promoted by Yvon Michel of GYM - but for one reason or another a deal has never come together for them to fight each other.

Because of the circumstances, the WBC has taken a lot of heat from the media and fans, and Sulaiman has finally responded to the criticism.

"We are addressing this matter. It's not 4 years [since Stevenson made a mandatory] and Kovalev hurt the process as well but it's unacceptable to continue. WBC is ruling soon," stated Sulaiman.

Regarding Sulaiman's reference to Sergey Kovalev - several years ago the WBC made a very strange ruling where they ordered Stevenson to fight Kovalev - who at the time was the rival champion of three other sanctioning bodies [WBO, WBA, IBF].

Besides allowing a rival champion to skip everyone in their own top ten, the situation created by the WBC was nothing more than a waste of time as the teams for Kovalev and Stevenson were never able to reach an agreement.

When the WBC ordered a purse bid, Kovalev's side - who pushed to become Stevenson's mandatory - withdrew from the process over concerns that Stevenson's team would win and take the fight to Showtime - which was a big issue with Kovalev, who at the time was negotiating a new exclusive deal with rival network HBO.

What's the issue. Going by their website, the WBC haven't enforced mandatories in years for many of their belts.

The issue is that media and fans were picking up on it as it looks like some kind of sceme. With Haymon 'advised' GYM stablemates having no intention to fight eachother, while Alvarez can fight lesser opposition while getting overpaid and Stevenson can avoid every mandatory for the rest of his titlereign/career.
With this in place Stevenson, Alvarez, GYM and Haymon all come out as winners, while next in line challengers like Barrera and Gvozdyk get left in the cold.

Of course not fighting mandatories is a huge problem with WBC beltholders, but this is one of the worst cases with nobody even getting the chance to become one anymore.

Ah, that make sense. I just assumed blamed WBC's lack of integrity but at Light-Heavy it is more fishy.

For the life of me, it boggles my mind on how nobody noticed this for the longest time until now. Like wtf....

The scheme that Stevenson, Alvarez, GYM & Haymon were doing with that situation was disgusting and should be dealt with accordingly & swiftly. I never seen such a situation where the champion and the mandatory challenger were pretty much in collusion in not fighting each other. Adonis keeps his belt and fights nobodies and his mandatory Alvarez lives off step aside money for the rest of his career. Just sickening.

If there is a bigger hater than me of Stevenson........ I am so happy to hear that but it's also so fishy! Why the hell Kovalev is mentioned by WBC?

the WBC ruling at most will be movie alvarez down to WBC 5 and giving two others a chance for number 1.

as for the Kovalev thing that actually did happen it went to purse bid and Duva turned it down.

They probably mention it as a reason/excuse why they aren't entirely the blame for him not fighting a mandatory in over 4 years.

How can the WBC say Stevenson is in trouble with them for not fighting a mandatory challenger yet?

It's like me taking a conscious decision to not clean my car and then 4 years later deciding the car is in trouble for being covered in ****.

Sulaiman made this statement because he's probably in touch with Alvarez lawyers. The Colombian can win big money in courts, if thats what he's after.

What a scumbag Sulaiman is for blaiming Kovalev for Stevenson's lack of cojones.

And then this mofo, Mauricio, sends all the contenders to the others champs. Stevenson is care free lol

    F Haymon
