Too often we see fights not happen or ducks for whatever reason but fair play to parker his tweet to Joshua was hilarious. The guy clearly wants fight and is happy as a champion only a 35 percent split and a rematch. He clearly chasing fight and i do think he beliebe can win startin root for The guy . The haters will say he gettin his highest payday even at 35 percent so what he is a champ he has a belt and wants fight in a age where too many fighters make bold statement eant fight best never back them up or price themselves out.at very worst if aj lost the rematch would sell like crazy put it in clause if he lost rematch hav be 50 50 Even at 65 percent what u think Joshua be earning 7 mayb 8 million.?? With a rematch clause also. The i dont box money tweet class puts hearn Joshua a position to clarify why don't accept a good deal how much greed need to be , Joshua will like most on here beliebe parker is easiest fight out of say wilder fury mayb even povetkin so why not take it good payday extra belt. Is it dowm pure greed ???
For me it's greed pure and simple. It's not like AJ isn't set for life already now either. It annoys me when people start talking about what a fighters worth, if your going to go down that line then just scrap belts and status, because it's just de'valueing them and the sport otherwise. Parker has won his belt the hard way, as a fellow champion 35% is more then fair imo. All this nonsense is what's going to stop fights being made, if Hearn is that confident just take the fight for godsake!
I have to disagree. He won a vacant belt against someone who probably isn't even top 15 in an organisation who's ranking is a complete joke. Defended against Hugie Fury and Cojanu. Boxing is a business and 30% is more than generous. He would be earning peanuts in any other fight and should be thankful to Hearn and matchroom for the life changing opportunity. If they push there luck too far they may miss out as Joshua has weaknesses.
For me it's about preventing to set a precedent. They already massively overpaid that guy that walked the earth like a god, who was holding the IBF belt at the time. Now people want them to massively overpay Parker too. Everybody knows what happens next. "But you paid [insert name] [insert huge amount], and I'm better so I want at least [insert insane amount]". This will happen every next fight, and fans will hop on that bandwagon. Overpaying one guy is tricky. Repeating it is very bad for your future income.
I get what your saying Pow, but why should he be thankful, he's a world champion and it's him whos actually trying to make the fight. When I hear stuff like that, it makes it sound like he's been offered a handout he should take. This is where it starts to cross and blur the lines of being a sport and a business to purely just business. It's now just going along the lines of greed, reverting away from the sporting aspect. I just hope the fight actually gets made, I just want to see the champions face each other.
AJ being set for life is irrelevant. His not in the business to make sure everyone else is looked after. Floyd made a difference to plenty of opponents lives giving them there biggest paydays. Could he of paid them more, yes he could of but why should he? He had he own self worth as does AJ and its unrealistic to think they should be made to take less money simply because they are wealthy already.
If you forget the monetary side for a second, what I'm trying to say, is the belt actually worth anything in negotiations from Parkers side? Because if there not, what's the point in even having one, if it's solely going to be about the fighter who has the better following. Do we get to a point where promoters start to tell us more and more a fighter is bigger then titles? I'm more concerned that more and more big fights get delayed, or don't get made due to the above happening and we get the equivalent of Molina / Taken opponents on PPV constantly rather than the top fighters fighting each other.
Whats sad is the fact this is a boxing forum and there is more discussion about percentages and splits than the actual fight.
35% isn't overpaying. The man has a recognized heavyweight championship belt. AJ gets 65%, Parker gets 35%. Both title holders. The precedent there is that the title-holder with less current proven box office appeal gets a 35% slice in a unification match. I've yet to see anyone explain what's wrong with that. (Even a mandatory challenger is supposed to get a fair slice, about 30%.)
Aj should just give him a flat fee same with wilder and make it at wembeley And drag it out as long as possible Just like Floyd and hoe Good bussiness move Kills boxing but who cares about the sport side of boxing Its the business side everyone seems to like Sad but true
Of course the belt is worth something. Especially at the current time when there's no clear established champion at the top of the division, like Wladimir was. This is what people fail to take into account. Parker might not yet be a box office fighter himself but his belt is worth something to ALL fighters, or ought to be.
This pro ranks are boxing entertainment. It's part of the game. Amateur boxing is the pure sport version.
That's not necessarily true. It's wrong to assume another opportunity couldn't come along for Parker within months. Anything can happen. Maybe the shady money Russians pay him massive money to come to Moscow for a fight with Povetkin. Maybe Tyson Fury comes to New Zealand or Australia to face Parker. Maybe Anthony Joshua loses to someone unexpectedly and comes knocking on Parker's door as a challenger ! Maybe Wladimir decides to come back and test himself against Parker. A new contender with box office can come along at any moment. That's what makes a belt valuable, more valuable than simple numbers the current champion has generated. Parker's taking a risk if he turns down the AJ fight for, say 30% because that's a lot of money, but it's not a definite net loss in the long run if he does. If he keeps winning he'll end up with a big payday sooner or later. 35% is the price he's set.
